I coul give a crap less than what a hack in Cleveland, Chicago, Timbuktu, or Vladivostok says. I'll believe a national writer who knows what the inside story is before I'll believe some know-nothing dillweed who probably is lucky they ever let him out of a locked studio.

You mean like Jay Bilas when he opined that Syracuse should be in the tourney instead of Xavier? Or the national commentators who didn't think Oden's foul on Cage was intentional?

What will Miller do? I guess we'll find out, but to say categorically that he'll stay ignores (1) our recent history with coaches, and (2) the realities of the college basketball world. Coaches are constantly moving up, or trying to move up. If Miller sees a better opportunity somewhere, he's gone. If he doesn't, he stays.

my neighbor here in new orleans is tim floyds agent. he told me like 3 weeks ago tim was very happy at usc. his daughter is there and he has a great financial deal .
he made so much money with the bulls and hornets he don't need to work.
i'm told by a very good source that LSU will choose an AD before getting a basketball coach. he told me we will all be surprised by the selection from a very reputable midwestern university!!bottom line...Sean is in great shape at Xavier

I'm originally from the chicago area and i can only pray that the idiot was either Mac, Jurko, or Harry (if they are even still together). I won't be surprised either way on what Miller does.

on another note, i like how we all are referred to as "the mob" by someone. I think it's normal to have a discussion about Xavier on a Xavier message board. I mean i get the reference and all but good God get over yourself

That was me, as you know, and my reference was probably less clear than intended. First, it didn't mean "the Mob" in any way. Second, I was referring to that image you'd see in a lot of older movies where the angry townspeople would grab torches and pitchforks and go after the perceived villain (or monster, in some of the even older movies).

The reason I used "mob" was because in your thread taking issue with the CP-D article, I thought that the vast majority of the posters had a visceral, emotional, "mob-mentality" response, similar to MOR's reaction to an opinion based less on whether the opinion is true or false than whether MOR wants the opinion to be true or false.

It's really not worth this much discussion on either your or my part, but I hope this clears things up somewhat.

And I would agree that if the opinion was given by Mac, Jurko or Harry, it carries little or no weight. If it was Skip Myslenski of the Tribune, or Greg Couch of the Sun-Times, or one of the other college sports reporters, it might carry some weight.

You couldn't have picked a worse example to try to make your point. Ok. Just pick out a statement from a guy who works for a network that has paid big bucks to the Big Greased and is obviously trying to pump them up to help his networks ratings. Oh, yeah, that's really unbiased.

Seth Davis works for CBS and Sports Illustrated. He gives unbiased opinions and facts, even picking against the school he graduated from- Duke. I classify the guy as damn credible.

He did not equivocate yesterday with Tim Brando. He said that Floyd is not leaving Southern Cal. That stops the domino theory in its tracks.

And, the guy who is spreading a rumor in Chicago about a coach from Cincinnati going to a job in Pittsburgh, I'm sure is really tuned in with a "reliable source", huh?

One does wonder how a "writer" in Chicago whould have an inside scope on a coach at Xavier and coach at USC.

This board is funny. The easiest way to get mass support is to put up a real rah-rah post that may or may not be factually correct.

Post "I love Xavier! Xavier's the greatest! We're going to win the national championship! All our players are upstanding citizens and future NBA stars!", and you get responses like "Well said!", "Couldn't have said it better myself!", "Finally, someone speaks the truth!", etc.

And re coaching rumors, none of us has the slightest idea whether Miller will stay or go. We have our opinions and wishes, but to say "he's going to stay" or "he's going to go" is, of course, speculation.

So, to fly off the handle because someone gave their opinion based on Miller's status, primarily because you disagree with it and don't want it to be true, is kind of funny. Not uncommon, but funny.

Xavier still is Xavier,but the job is way more valuable as well as desirable since Sean accepted the job and Thad left in a hurry. This is true not only in Cincinnati but throughout the Xavier nation. Why....

1) Sean did an out of the box move hiring Book Richardson. It was viewed as many as a real coo for XU and gained some good and respectable national notice.
2) Our team status is considerably better than it was before Sean. We go deeper on the bench, and our bench players are way better. Players coming off the bench would have been startes for Matta and Skip. Not to say they didn't have good teams then,but not the caliber that we have now.
3) Our recruiting the past three years has reached new heights. Guys like Redford,D Brown, Dantae Jackson, Frease and many others make our program take a back seat to few or none.
4) The recent US News and World Report stating we are one of the most profitable NCAA Basketball schools, somewhere in the top 20 as I recall. All these add up to more valuable.
If you ask youself what could Sean do at a Pitt that he couldn't do at XU besides win a big east title you'd probably be hard pressed for an answer! Lets hope we keep winning and Sean asks himself the same question! ----------Biggernlife

Your points re why X is more attractive now than it was even a few years ago are all valid, but your "besides" isn't insignificant, especially to a Pitt grad.

But Miller may look around and say "X is here and Pitt isn't, so why leave?". But then you think of all the BE television exposure, and the multiple bids the league gets every year, and that starts looking good, too.
