I think people need to give this guy a chance before you declare this move a failure. He could be a solid contributor, his numbers at WMU were good. If he can get his weight and temper under control, then who knows. As has been mentioned, he got 10 and 7 vs. X in 2010, not bad for 27 minutes. Just because he's overweight with rec specs doesn't mean that he can't play.

How's our weight training program worked out so far? Kenny never got in shape and Jeff Robinson still looks like a stick.
I think any belief that this guy is going to somehow get in better shape is unrealistic.

I have to agree. We've got a bunch of frontline players who need to get much stronger, and our center always seemed marginally in shape. Maybe a change is in order re our strength/conditioning program or people.

Taylor was out of position when playing the 5, but he didn't show either the strength or moves to play with 4's, either. He was a BIG disappointment, given what we were told about him.

Taylor is out of position playing any position. A horrrrrrible offensive player (sorry Bill Walton).
Maybe Stainbrook will surprise with low expectations. He is a big wide body that showed a decent shooting touch (58%)..is left handed (atypical) and wears those rec-specs. My prediction - the kid will be a decent player for X...assuming he gets in a bit better shape and matures some from the nect up. And I will bet my paycheck his 2 year career will be better than Travis Taylor.

muncie6569--Don't play professionally (I have a day job), but do play with an eclectic, classic rock group 3/4 times a year in clubs or restaurants or after a minor league baseball game. Like the blues, but leave it to Buddy Guy!

Seems like an interesting pick-up, but if you look at what we have coming in this year and next, it appears to be what we need. Mack is not in need of an impact center. In fact there are not too many impact centers anywhere. The ones that are out there all become 4's in the pro's. Many teams are going to the 3 and 4 guard offenses (UC with Gates and 4; Missiouri with Oriaki and 4; Villanova who really started it; Louisville the same). We need a consistant big body to block out so the smaller, leaner, athletic guys can rebound and go. We sometimes, though, need a big body to play against the big Ten type teams in the NCAA.
We are never going to get the dominant center. We are surrounding this guy (5th option) with four get-up-and-go guys that can play in the open court. Half the time he won't need to go past halfcourt for Wells and Christian and Philmore and Thomas will go 2 on 2 and 3 on 3. In many games against A-10 competition, Reynolds and Farr will play the inside.
We have 13 scholarships to give. This is not a wasted 'ship. If you recall Coley from ND and Conklin from St. Louis and even Dayton's center used their wider bodies to play us tough. If this guy has any inside moves (he is left-handed, which can be a plus), he could be a decent 5th option. I'd see him playing at 270.

I would be more inclined to understand this pickup if he would be available immediately, or if our pipeline of bigs was barren.
Secondly, when the competition for a transfer are Bradley and another bottom feeding D-1 team, that causes me to question his skillset or attitude.

People point to the games he had against Duke, Gonzaga, and others. While he did well statistiically, who knows in what context he amassed the stats.

Was it when the game was out of hand? Based on the scores, I suspect the outcomes in many of the games he did well in were decided sometime in the 1st half.

Thirdly, when you play on a very bad team, and you're the biggest player on the team, you are going to get opportunities to score points. I think the kid is definitely skilled, and can do well in some systems. I just feel he will not fit in with the ultra atheletes who will be starting in 2 years when he becomes eligible: Semaj, Thomas, Martin, Reynolds, and ......Stainbrook? The latter 4 have the atheleticism, skill, and length to play fast on offense and defense. I don't see how Stainbrook fits in this style of play.

Did it keep you out of Dana's? I don't recall KF being arrested for disorderly conduct or anything else, so I'm not quite sure the point you're trying to make. He had a great 2nd half of his sr yr., and was the key, IMO, to our improved play.

We say it was too little too late, but I think, as others have expressed, he was the victim of hype and exaggeration of his rankings in h.s.

I also heard reports he did not work very hard in his early years. If true, shame on him for not working harder. However, he has been pounded on this board for 4 years, and represented himself and the university extremely well in his sr. year (especially post brawl).

He has taken more than his fair share of criticism. I think it's time for him to get some well deserved kudos.

Really? You couldn't figure out Rubble's point? I think you brought up his point in your response. The fact of the matter is that many people saw KF at Dana's AND heard reports that he did not work very hard. It does not take Einstein to put two and two together and think that there is a correlation.
If you do not agree with that, that's fine and I respect it. But to say you could not figure out Rubble's point is just plain dumb.
