just a quote from a different board on someone who saw him play. take it for what it's worth.
"Saw him play against Toledo this year. He scored 12 points in the opening 5 minutes, got subbed out, shoved a teammate on his way to the bench and played 5 minutes the rest of the game as his team lost. Apparently that game was a microcosm of his career at WMU- moments of dominance supplemented with attitude and conditioning problems. Surprised a program as stable as Xavier's would take a chance on such a kid."

Re: Western Michigan center to transfer to X...
What is the rule on a player whose school does not renew his scholarship? Can he play right away for his next school (given that his scholarship was not renewed) or must he still sit out a year?
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!

I wouldn't put down the MAC too much. The Ohio University did fine this year.
Certainly stronger than the Northeast Conference where T. Taylor came from or the Metro Atlantic where CJ Anderson came from.
This guy's numbers were better than any of our bigs this including Frease - he avg 11.4 PPG, 6.8 RPG and shot 58% from the field...better than Frease, JRob, Walker and T. Taylor. I'm not saying he's going to be a stud but I'll bet he will a better player than either Robinson or Taylor.
He's not playing next year...so we are still left with Taylor and Robinson as our experienced bigs...Lord help us.
And please let Reynolds be an immediate contributor and Philmore too!!

Well he made 3 3's last year which is 3 more than our fearless foursome of Frease, Walker, Taylor and Robinson.longliveskip wrote:can he step out and hit from 17-20 feet, possibly even have a decent 3-pt shot?
if he can, then sign him up.

Had some issues at WMU. The university did not renew his scholarship. Hawkins seemed pretty frustrated based on quotes in this articles.

My nephew (who attends WM) seemed surprised that he could play at X although he was good a times. He said he was a shorter fatter Kenny Frease that is inconsistent.

Interesting...WMU really must have a sucky program since Stainbrook was their 2nd leading scorer last year.
He scored 32 against South Dakota St (a tournament team) but also had several games with zero points so the inconsistent label applies.
I don't remember him from 2 years ago when WMU played X but the stat showed he scored 10 pts and 7 rebounds. Frease had 14 and 7 that game.

Looks like a year of classes, working out, and practicing should help. The recs specs concern me.

Wonder if they can get him to shed a few lbs.skyhops wrote:Looks like a year of classes, working out, and practicing should help. The recs specs concern me.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
