Pre-Game Festivities in DC

Anyone have definite plans for Thursday Pre/Post-game activities?

I know the "official" Xavier Hotel is the Marriott Renaissance at 999 9th Street. This is a 3-4 block walk from Verizon.

Directly across from the arena are several bars and restaurants which are sure to be open early on Thursday.

Anyone have plans they want to share? It's never too early to tie one on, but I'd rather not drink alone!

I dont know where there is to go in DC but I am staying in that same hotel and I know I will atleast probably be celebrating in the hotel bar after the 1st game

Staying in Courtyard at 9th and F Sts., 3 blocks from both team hotel and Verizon. We're ready to celebrate anytime and anywhere.

Isn't the Verizon Center right by Union Station?

Capitol City Brew Pub is right there, the Dubliner and Kelly's Irish Times are all good places.

The Verizon Center is in the Penn Quarter/China town area. Not too far from Union Station, but not easy walking distance. You will probably want a place closer.

Here is the info I just got on the pregame reception for Thursday and (hopefully) Sat.....

The Xavier University National Alumni Association will be hosting a pre-game gathering prior to Thursday’s first round game against Georgia in Washington DC. We invite the Xavier faithful to attend a complimentary breakfast that begins at 9:00 AM on Thursday, March 20th and concludes at 10:30 AM. Coffee, tea and soda will be included and a cash bar will also be available. The event will be held right across the street from the Verizon Arena at Gordon Biersch. It should be a great place to gather before the game. The address is:

We plan to gather at the same spot again for a pre-game luncheon on Saturday before we play the winner of the Purdue/Baylor game. We’ll gather for lunch between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Lunch will be followed by the other second round game that is set to tip-off at 2:10 PM. The Xavier game will begin around 5:00 PM. The lunch will also be complimentary with coffee, tea and soda included and a cash bar will be available.



Penn Quarter Sports Tavern has been selected to be the watering hole for Xavier fans. It is just a few blocks from the Verizon Arena and will be a nice place for the Xavier fans to gather for post-game celebrations and during the other games on Friday and Sunday. It is located at:

UPDATE...

Gordon Biersch is reserved solely for XU fans from 0900 to 1030 on game day.

If you have never been there, their food is delicious!

Excellent microbrew too!

I concur, Jamal. We stayed at this Courtyard where the brew pub is located during a previous visit to DC in 2006. Great place to stay, and the food was pretty good. Made my reservations here for this weekend a month ago.

I'd like to thank the Alumni Asso. for setting these parties up at our hotel.

Verizon Center is near the Chinatown Metro Station, about 2 stops away from Union Station. There are plenty of bars around there including an ESPN Zone a couple blocks away if you want the full March Madness experience.

Also Regional Food & Beer on 7th Street by the arena has the city's largest selection of beer, but I don't think there are any beer fans on this board so I'm sure you'll find something else.
