Embarrassment

Postby DoubleD86 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 1:06 am

This is not about tonight's game.
I am just as angry as any one else.
This game hurt.

HOWEVER,

This board is an embarrassment. I do not post on here often, although I read it daily, but I can not believe all the fans on here. A loss against a talented, underachieving team that matches up well against X and everything goes to *****.

All I know is everyone here who is acting like this team sucks, there is no talent on this team, Stanley sucks, and etc. that I have been reading all night, if and when Xavier has a run in the tourney (which I still believe they will) I hope not a single one of you jumps back on the bandwagon. It is fine to be disappointed about a loss, but you people are horrible. All of the sudden this team has no talent and Miller needs to earn his salary and everything sucks. This board is pathetic...

To a large extent I have to agree with this post.

I wasn't able to watch the game tonight, so all I knew was we lost. I read a lot of the posts on here and figured that X played a horrible and lazy game. Out of curiosity I decided to watch the game. I was strangely pleasantly surprised to see that X and STJ played a very competitive game. STJ simply hit the big shots and X did not.

It's not like X didn't come to play. STJ got the better of them. It happens. Was STJ a bunch of "hacks" in 2004 when X took it to them? No, STJ recovered and made it to the Elite 8 as well that year.

Let's take a deep breath and realize we still have a very talented team that can go very far in the NCAA's.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Well said X-Fan. Been reading and contributing to these boards for more than a few years and, sadly, after every loss, the "see, I was right..." sayers come out and lately they're getting nasty. Sad.
I'm still damn proud of this team and looking forward to the NCAA tournament.

I agree Double, that's why the "other board" has gotten so popular. I think I'm done with this place.

X factor and Double....cop-out ! This board has just as many fans that were upset last night but realize that it is one game and against a team we historically have a good rivalry with year in and year out. We have beaten them when they have been at the top and they have beaten us when we have been at the top. Sure we have some that are fanatical in their negativity but the reason most have is because they passionately love for X to win. Some of them think we goody goody fans are not fanatical enough or see everything with blue colored glasses. I for one am not offended by their opinions because I am a goody goody, blue wearing glass kind of fan and will not apologize for it. Some posters are flamers and love to start a fight. We had a few of those last night calling the team names. They know who they are and I know who they are and I now warn them I am watching them. This board has been quite open to differences of opinions, ask yourself are you igf a little contoversity hurts your feelings. You say you are out of here and that makes me sad but be truthful because the other boards have had their share of negative posters. In fact the most recent demised board was shut down because of a handful of problem fans.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

More people will post after a loss than a win.I think it's cathartic for us.Some posters won't be happy unless X wins the national championship. Most are not like that.I'm disappointed in the loss but St Joes was a better team.Fortunately we won't have to face them again. They give us the most matchup problems of any team we faced all year.I'm looking forward to selection sunday and next weeks games.I think we'll bounce back.

muskieman, maybe it is a cop-out, but I can't stand it that Gary, one of the longest standing members of this board and moderator is the one always leading the charge of negativity.

Take a look at what he posted last night after the game.

The stupid "Maybe there IS a reason Calathes was 1st team..." post. It was obviously a slap at Stan. If I recall, Stan didn't mention Calathes at all in his media comment.

He also started the "Why did X even bother showing up tonight?" thread.

Quote: "We all talk about how good we are, how we don't get the respect we deserve, how this team is going a long way, etc.---and then we forget to show up in big games."

What a complete load of crap. 27-6 and this team doesn't show up in big games? I don't think so.

He also said "we won't make it past the first weekend."

I agree there are a lot of good posters on this board, but the loudest voice of negativity ruins it for me.

Muskieman, I don't think you can say it's a cop out to me because I never "threatened" to leave this board. I will continue to come back every day. I will continue to (mostly quietly) read everyone's opinions. However, I still think this board after that loss was embarrassing. It's not just about negativity, I can handle that. It's about how people completely sell out everyone associated with the program when XU loses.

When people post things like this: (all hypothetical)
"Tonight we played horribly, so and so did not do well, this needs to be fixed"
I am cool with that, that's called analysis

When people post things like this: (again hypothetically)
"We suck, we won't get past the first weekend, we don't have talent, so and so doesn't hold a candle to so and so of ten years ago, Miller needs to earn his money, etc.
That is embarrassing...

Make up a specific list of what's acceptable criticism and what isn't, and we'll do our best to not hurt your feelings.

It's OK to say positive things that may turn out to be wrong, as long as you don't say negative things that may be true. NOW I get it!

dang double - you're sounding like Burrell after the A-10 awards were given out.

Let's look at the St joes game as their redemption for the 2004 romp we gave them.. All is still well in Xavier nation..
