I hope UD wins so we can make it 6 straight in the series. :P
nice deflection!

i'm calling out one of your players because he made some "toolish" statements. the fact i am a ud fan has nothing to do with my comments.

josh duncan doesn't make "toolish" comments to the media. neither do lavender, brown, anderson, etc.
sorry, but burrell does at times.

the a-10 awards are for individual performance. if burrell, lavender,or duncan played for different teams, would their numbers be worthy of INDIVIDUAL a-10 honors? probably. but you can't try to guess that maybe they would and therefore give them first team honors. it is based on numbers.

give me your a-10 1st team then, and we can compare it to the current one that was announced today.
If the award is based on numbers than you need to add a few numbers like how many shots per game it took the guys on the 1st team to get those numbers and also how many points/game they gave up to their man on defense. What's the point differential between them and the man they were guarding. There are a lot of numbers that don't get published.

I am new to the board. But have read for a few years. I am a graduate of Xavier and played a little baseball and swamn for the Musketeers. I have been a Xavier fan for 24 years. I wonder would my "credentials" give me the right to call a player a clown. You seem to think yours do michiganxman. These kids make tremendous sacrifices on and off the court. They deserve our respect. Voice your opinion but do it the right way. That's exactly what Stanley did.

Stanley is the leader of this team as a senior. It's not in Josh's or Drew's personalties and CJ and BJ are juniors. BJ probably takes the roll next year.

My first team....
Drew, Josh, Stanley, Forbes and Christmas...I'd put Roberts on the second team for his failure to do much against X and the meltdown of his team after the injury to Wright. Plus his defense is very suspect. Don't get me wrong he's a very good player but didn't lead his team to any championships.

I used to find joeybaloney interesting. Now he just bores me. If he is a UD grad, they better ask for the return of his sheepskin.
Stan had a perfect right to do what he did. Thus far he's backed up his words on the court. What pray tell is wrong with defending your teammates and rallying them?
As for the A10 awards, every honor Xavier received was earned and deserved. The comments of posters like joey are just evidence of jealousy, envy and frustration over not having won diddly.
Awards tend to be political when coaches vote. If they can't vote for their team they do the good ole boy thing. They get one or two coaches from other league teams to vote for their kids on the promise they'll vote for theirs.
There is one obvious thing that many posters have overlooked. The A10 in generral doesn't think much of Xavier. And Xavier like a faithful dog just keeps coming back for more. I think it's very unusual that a team dominates a league and wins the regular-season title but has no player on the first team all-conference.
Stanley is just doing what Byron Larkin did for several years at Xavier..."teams and the league don't respect us. That's why we have to win. It motivates us. I applaud Stanley Burrell for his leadership and sacrifice for the good of his team.
Maybe when the current commissioner exits stage left, Xavier will get a little more respect. Just a little.

Stanley is not a Clown, so take a deep breath from your inhaler. I found notihng wrong in what he said. He's entitled to his opinion and he was backing up his teammates. We're not on the team, remember?

Oh, BTW. Dayton Sucks! In case anyone forgot.
He is indeed entitled to his opinion; however, that doesn't mean that it is appropriate for him to express it in this manner. Also, I think that conference awards should be pretty far down on his list of priorities right now.

You have got to be kidding me...

Here you have a program having its best season ever: top 10 RPI, most wins in program history, back-to-back season titles, and top 10 ranking. On top of that here you have a senior, who wears his heart on his sleeve and gives everything he has to the Xavier program. He has sacrificed his own scoring for the sake of the TEAM and who will take a bullet for any of those guys who wear the Xavier uniform. Yesterday he goes out and speaks his mind…going to bat for his teammates and advocating for their recognition and you have callers to talk radio and posters on this page among others who are slamming him?

You can't tell me that any other local team, or any other national team for that matter, wouldn't love to have a seasoned senior leader who is unafraid to go out and speak his mind…not for himself, but for his TEAM. Forget the fact that he called out other teams' players by name. Focus on the fact he is fighting for the man on his right and the man on his left.

Who cares if the stats merit their inclusion? Who cares if you would take Brian Dunston over Derrick Brown, or Stanley Roberts over CJ Anderson?!?!? That's not the point of what Stanley was saying. The point Stanley made was that as individuals the Xavier Musketeers are better than their individual stats show. Had they played a different system any one of the top 8 or 9 players could have been the go-to guy. But the key to this TEAM is that the whole is so much better than the sum of its parts.

As a TEAM, this group of Musketeers embody the All For One, One For All motto their mascot represents.

As a TEAM they sacrificed individual recognition in the hopes of achieving something more.

If I were an opponent in the A-10, I'd be scared. Real scared.

Because I think Stanley Burrell just told the rest of the league that Xavier is about to show how good it really is...

This is what we get. 1st place league finish. 3 players in 1st ten players in the league 4 in top 15. Coach of the Year. I
don't know how you overlook C.J and Derrick, and B.J.

They will all be more motivated if that's possible.

Not only did Stanley do a great job standing up for his teammates, but, he also deflected all of the discussion away from Drew's ankle.

Basically, this is what you should say to Burrell...
The entire point of Stan's rant is whether or not the other players should have been picked over Xavier players. I completely agree that the team is excellent, and many of Xavier's players could have been stars this year for other teams. However, the fact that they could perform better in a different circumstance does not warrant inclusion on the first team all conference.
I respect the fact that Stanley is standing up for his teammates; I simply do not think that this was the appropriate manner in which to defend them.

But sometimes, going out on a limb, they way Stanley did, is exactly the kick in the pants you need to refocus and channel your energies.
