Re: Matta To Indiana?
If he thinks he can put bball on the same level as football at OSU,then his ego must be as big as his nose.Obviously he can win there but it will never be the same as the football success. If he had stayed here for a few more years he could have gotten the IU job instead of Cell Phone Sampson.I would have to think that if he had the choice, he would have taken IU over OSU.

Re: Matta To Indiana?
7/7/2004 COLUMBUS, Ohio — A week after declaring he had no interest in the vacant Ohio State basketball coaching job, Xavier coach Thad Matta accepted the position shortly after it was offered to him Wednesday.
From Bucknuts But Thad Matta's coaching scheme seems to never work. I'm being honest. OSU's problem has always been that they live and die by the three point jumpshot. Matta's told a reporter that he mainly lets them just play. He has like ten plays that he calls, but most of the time...they just play.
"I'm not a candidate. It's that plain and that simple," Matta was quoted as saying in The Cincinnati Enquirer June 29, 2004

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I could honestly see Matta jumping ship again for IU. It's been his pattern throughout his career. He had his moment in the sun w/ the National Championship game and it is true that he will always be second fiddle to Football at OSU.
I do not think Sean would have any interest in OSU though. I think Sean leaves for Pitt or another Big East job but I honestly believe Miller will be at X longer than many folks.

Watched OSU vs Purdue last night. Even though OSU pulled it out Matta looked very stressed out, not very happy and not very healthy. You know he wasn't under that kind of heat at XU but then again It was his choice. Definitely not the same guy that lead XU to the EIGHT!

Re: Matta To Indiana?
It is pretty easy to get a ticket to an OSU men's basketball game this season. I can tell you all from firsthand experience that OSU fans have no clue what the basketball team is doing unless someone else tells them that they are in the Top 25. Then, they may pay attention. Last year was a one-time deal for OSU men's basketball and it is because Matta took a chance on two youngsters from Indiana. The interesting thing is that the one player who was supposed to be the dominant of the two, Oden, really didn't add much. Between being hurt until January and playing himself into shape until March, he didn't add much. The real surprise was Conley who played beyond everyone's expectations. This year people are griping because they say Matta really doesn't coach. Instead, he just lets guys chuck up three pointers and if they make enough they win, otherwise, they lose. Very much to the point that muskieman made previously in this thread. Lest we all forget, it was Asst. Head Coach Miller's idea to go to man-to-man prior to the UC game in the 2004-05 season. Otherwise, there may not have been any run if Myopic Matta was left to his own abilities to adjust.

Re: Matta To Indiana?
He does look very stressed and has aged considerably from last year. His teams have always been excellent defensively but avg. offensively. I think his back problem has really hampered his ability to coach as he is very active in the way he teaches.
He probably should go back to the Butler style of offense.
