Stanley for Defensive player of the year in the A-10

Postby muskieman » Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:30 pm

Heck I think he might deserve it for defensive player of the year in NCAA.
Sean mentioned it in the media room after the game. He said that Stan had an effect on the whole offense of the Dukes when he was in the game.

Who else is better? Why.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

He definately deserves it for the A10. I haven't watched enough games to say he deserves it for all of the NCAA, but, I've read at least one story that stated he's definitely in the running. I can't see how there could be anyone else who has as much of an impact on opposing scorers. He dominates on the defensive end.

Keep it up, Stan!

without a doubt. after personally seeing him in Baron's jersey for 40 minutes and hold Baron scoreless (I dont count the 2 late garbage FTs), he is the best player I have seen in a long time at sticking with a man without the ball.

No brainer. There is not a better defensive player right now. I've noticed his defensive presence all year, but the Duque game a couple of days ago I decided to watch him on the defensive end instead of watching the ball and other cutters and just said WOW! There's not too may sexy stats for strong defense other than blocked shots, steals and charges but while Stanley does a bit of those, he is absolutely in the grill of who he is guarding. In his first couple of years he tried to outscore his counterpart by making pretty, off balanced fade-aways and three's, now he outscores them by shutting them down, dishing to the open guy and making high percentage open shots. This team is so beautiful to watch.

I think some credit goes to Miller as far as playing to the strengths of his players.

One of Miller's criticism's of Burrell was that he needed to learn to guard not only his man but others as well. It seems that Miller has recognized Stanley's strength, made some adjustments, and is now praising him as he should for what he does so well.
