Re: CAN XAVIER GET A #1 SEED?
people may want to be prepared for xavier's seed to not be either a #1 or a #2 even if we win out.
in 2005 there was a team who was ranked #4 in the top 25 at the end of the year. they finished the year with ten straight wins, and were 18-1 overall in their final 19 games. they had seven wins against the rpi top 50 and three against the rop top 25 (two of which were on the road). most thought they'd get a #2 seed, and some of their own fans thought they may get a #1.
the team was louisville, and they received a #4 seed. that team's credentials were actually better than this year's xavier team, and even if xavier wins out that would still be the case. to be seeded #1 or #2, you have to beat top ten teams, not top 25 teams. that louisville team didn't, and neither has this year's xavier team.
i don't think our seed will be any better than a #2, and if i had to guess i'd say it probably won't even be that good if we win out. i'm not saying that's fair. i'm just saying i know how the committee thinks. our best road win was against rhode island. that's the only team we've beaten in a true road game that's safely in the field. that's a good win, but the committee will reward teams with better road wins and more of them before they'll reward xavier.
if you think we have a shot at a #1 seed, be ready to be pissed. don't be too pissed, though. that same louisville team ended up making the final four.
