Not that I want to give any real pub to Lance McCallister but I did pull this from his blog. From an emailer re: X's win vs. URI last night.
http://1530homer.com/pages/lancesBlog.html
First email of the morning
"A win over Rhode Island big? Please. Call me when they beat a team worth while. Stupid Xavier."
Written by a true UC fan. Now I hesitated posting this b/c I don't want to sully the win with Bearcat fan belly aching but the line "Stupid Xavier." sealed it for me.

Just another reason why sports talk shows in Cincinnati suck. All they talk about is Chad, OSU, and UK. Ever since I got XM radio, I haven't listened to a minute of local talk radio.

Re: Lance's Blog (1530 Homer)
That remark was from an emailer.
Lance wrote this
"Wow: X 81 Rhode Island 77
8 wins in a row for Xavier.
That was a HUGE road win. Rhode Island fans had the joint jumping.
After X led by 10 at the half, RIU hit X with a left and a right on a 13-0 run.
X looked shaken and Duncan picked up his 4th foul with about 14-minutes left. But they found a way to win. They looked lost against the zone at times. They didn't defend the perimeter. But they found a way to win. Baron meet Burrell. No contest. Duncan's 3rd foul was silly. His 4th foul was silly.A senior can't do that. But how bout his overall game? 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists....perfect for the game 8 for 8 on FG's...including 3 for 3 on 3pt'ers......4 for 4 on FT's. I'm worried about Drew's ankle.
X has seniors....they handle the ball......they hit FT's....they have multiple scoring options...sounds like a plan for March.
The A-10 is doing what a good conference does....it is preparing X for the tournament.
I hope we can do the win justice on Tuesday. I'm tired of getting yelled at by listeners for talking about the #10 team in the country."

Being outside of Cincy allows me to pick and choose what I read and hear from Cincy media. It does sound like it has become significantly worse, no idea why. Although, I only need to turn my head and listen to Giants and Yankees fans/media before things look a whole lot better in Cincy.

First, his name is McAlister. I'm sure you would appreciate your name spelled right.
Second, his posting that email was a slam on UC hacks. Anybody who knows college basketball, including Ken Pomeroy, who was on the radio this morning, noted that this was a nice feather in Xavier's cap. X now has 11 wins over top100. Only Duke & UNC can claim more. 6 wins are over top 50 (with St. Joe's being 7 if they had not fallen last night). 9 road/neutral wins, only 7 teams have more.
And for those crying about the local media, just stop it. Why do we care what they think of your team? Let the facts speak for themselves. This team is Top 10, they are on course for a long trip through the tournament. If Joe Cincy on radio wants to talk UC/NIT over XU/NCAA, so be it. My team will still go on.

Re: Lance's Blog (1530 Homer)
Not sure anyone was crying here. I think the point being made was that we have a top ten program in the city and they don't seem to be getting the hype locally that we do nationally. You are right however, nothing anyone says on local talk radio has any bearing on the success of this team.Statman wrote:First, his name is McAlister. Re: Lance's Blog (1530 Homer)
Very well said statman. Local media doesn't matter. Just win and Xavier will get the national recognition they deserve. More exposure nationally usually equates into better NCAA seeding. As for everyone worrying what other fans say about our program, again, who cares. Let someone say that a win against URI on the road is not meaningful. It says more about the intelligence (or lack thereof) of their fans than it does about xavier. At this point any talk about xavier, good or bad, is a good thing. It means that Xavier is doing something right. We have all known that locally most people in this city want Xavier to go away. They are like the Red-headed step child. For those not close to the program they look like a good program that you would want to embrace. For those in Cincinnati they are the kid you want to slap in the face and shove into the mud. It is the way it has been for a long time and will continue to be.

Re: Lance's Blog (1530 Homer)
I think it's time the whole city starts to get behind the Musketeers like the city did with UC football. X has a chance to do something really special and we all know this city hasn't had much to celebrate from the pro franchises for may years. I think X fans need to start representing on the local airways and dominate conversation for the next month and a half.

Re: Lance's Blog (1530 Homer)
not to worry; all the uc fans will be xu fans once the tourney begins. All the uc guys in vegas will be betting on xu. All the uc business men who travel will be cheering for xu in hotel lobby bars across the nation. Success is as contagious as the flu. The XU Blue Flu will sweep the country beginning March 20th.
