X has been extemely lucky concerning continuity in replacing head coaches with other "sucessful" head coaches over the last 20 years. A foundation has been built, a "national" reputation has been established, and the administration is in place to continue the progression(i.e Bobinski)xavierj wrote:I don't care if others bring it up but as Xavier fans few seem to have any confidence in Xavier and Sean. Until Sean interviews somewhere else I just wish the stupid talk would stop. And it is bad for recruiting if your fans speculate every year if your coach will come back. As for the we will good regardless Tulsa fans thought the same thing. At some point starting over every 3 or 4 years will catch up to you and we could be Loyola or Lasalle. I don't think Sean is going anywhere anytime soon I just wish the majority of our fans would have a little more confidence in the program and actually believe that Sean may realize what a great situation he is in. Last I checked other then Thad, leaving Xavier has not always been the best thing for your coaching career.drudy23 wrote:xavierj wrote:Make it stop.quote]
Why? If chatter likes this stops, that means we likely suck. People wanting our coach is a good thing...it means we're good.
Would you rather no one want him and we suck?
He's going to leave eventually. Maybe not next year...maybe not in 3 years. But eventually it will happen. We can't compete financially with the top high conference schools.
Just prepare yourself for that fact now. And, in saying that, we'll all move on and Xavier will still be good, just like we always have been.

This is simply a naive statement in any possible context.. The Xavier basketball program has succeeded due to excellent hirings (from the Basketball Coach/Athletic Dept chairs on down....overall leadership Father Hoff, Sr rose etc) But lets keep it to the head coaches. Xavier has been EXTREMELY fortunate/lucky(if you believe in that kind of thing, although, I believe people make their own luck) to have the continued hiring success with our coaches....for these hires are the all-important cog(along with the athletic dept. head aka Bobo, that keeps the program on a an upward swing. My point is this....
HOW MANY PROGRMAS CAN SAY THEY HAVE HIRED 5+ SUCCESSIVE COACHES THAT EACH HAVE HELPED THE PROGRAM GROW/ PROGRESS FROM COACH TO COACH (NO FIRINGS)?
Schmidt to the Gardens to the Cintas Center.
And you get guys like Xavierj who think that its a foregone conclusion that if Miller were to leave, again X would be able to hire a coach that would continue our ascension. What has happened at X in regards to hiring great coaches(in continuity) is SOMEWHAT OF A MATHEMATICAL ANOMALY. All it takes is ONE bad hire to set this program back years. The potential IU opening could be a real threat....call it what it is.
I have faith that M Bobinski will do everything in his power to keep Sean happy and, most importantly, at Xavier. We are on the cusp, and it would be a shame to lose him at this point.
