Box score notes

Postby CarlosTheJackal » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:35 am

I was not able to watch or listen to the game last night, so I would appreciate commentary.

The good: Rebounding 40-32.

The ugly: 23 turnovers. Wha?
starters 8-23. Ouch. BJ 2-10. Ouch!
Goldwire 7-15 3PFG. So much for in your shorts perimeter defense.

There is no commentary here on Drew's status, could someone update please. Ive heard variously thumb, ankle...

We've been lucky on injuries up to now...

I was at the game, and first off, kudos to Duncan. He was money all night long and he was playing tough. There were a couple of lazy passes early that I was not real happy with. Later there were a couple drives to the basket where someone tried to dish it off into traffic. In terms of Goldwire, he made some great shots. He also took a bunch of horrible shots as well. A couple of his made three's were after turnovers where we were outmaned on the defensive side. He also made some that were far out and well guarded, and frankly I thought were a little lucky. He is a good player, but he was making some that were similar to the end of the St. Louis game. Later in the game he was taking them and missing horribly. Lavender just couldn't get any shots to fall. He did do something to his ankle, I'm not sure what exactly. He got tripped up on a foul and fell to the floor. I thought the refs were too foul happy on both sides, but then at random points decided not to call things. It seemed like we could never get things going, because every 20 seconds the game would stop.

Burrell had foul trouble all night, and sat for most of the first half. When he could play, he shut down Goldmire. For example, Goldwire had 17 in the first half -- NONE when Stan was in the game.

Drew had a bad hand and then turned his ankle resulting in his worst game of the year-7 turnovers.0 points.
CJ really struggled also.Duncan saved the day.

Remember when X would lose these games? It's a new day at X.

I didn't realize that X shot worse in the 2nd half (35%) versus the 1st half (45%).

Our FT shooting as a team was so-so, but no one player had a bad night.

Burrell/Lavender/Duncan with 16 TO's-yikes!

Charlotte with 12 steals-would that be a season high for a Xavier opponent this year?

I didn't realize that Charlotte put up 23 3's; of course, with Goldwire having 15, that's not such a high team total.

While Goldwire scored a lot I noted that it was when Stan was out. I heard Stan was under the weather for a few days this last week and missed a number of practices but still played a good game on D.

For awhile last night I thought maybe the refs should have played that game because they seemed to control it most of the time...I guess they didn't know their faces were not getting any TV time.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

The refs were way too involved. The game seemed to drag on and on at some points because neither team could get on a run with all the stoppage.

Not being at Cintas, they knew that guy that sits behind Byron and corrects them all night would not be able to help and so you see what happens. They just could not handle it! They need ya, muskieman!

It's just what somebody thinks ...
