XU is a better team than Bulter and a better program than Butler. That is not a slam on Butler either. They are a good team and program and I would love to replace SLU with Butler.[/quote]

I'd rather the A10 keep SLU nice market brand new arena and have Butler replace a program like LaSalle or Fordham. Butler has a very good disciplined team and that Green kid is one heck of a point guard.
BTW to the Butler fan, I know X wanted Howard but not Shelvin Mack (never even heard of him and I've got a subscription to Musketeerhoops.com).

Good ol' Brew, always trying to put words in people's posts. I am not saying that at all. XU was however up 9 with a minute 40 left at SLU and could have won by 10 or more.

I omitted SLU for Butler due to proxmimity but I certainly would replace LaSalle or SBU first in a perfect world.

i'm not trying to put words in your mouth as much as i'm trying to interpret the words that are already coming out of it. when you say that we'd beat team A by a bigger margin than we'd beat team B by, to me that implies that you think team A isn't as good. you said we'd beat butler by ten. we didn't beat saint louis, saint joseph's or charlotte by that margin. get it?? you're right, though. we did appear to have slu in the bag, but still needed a last second tip in to win.

I am not implying anything. Whoops!

Comparing scroes? Really. I guess XU would beat UNC handily since UVA gave them a great game this week.

Butler deserves respect. Why is it so difficult to give it to them?

Nothing that can be said here would settle any of this, the only determinant would be to play the game.

Let's hope that happens in the tourney!

I respect Butler and think that they are a good team. I do think though that they are overrated, but they are still a team that deserves to be ranked. Their schedule is fairly solid, but not near the schedule we've played. I do have to say that all the speculation here is kind of annoying. Do I think we would beat them tomorrow, yes, but that is an opinion. All these opinions on who would win where have no bearing on who is the better team. Looking at the schedules, we have proved ourselves more then they have. The comparison of Michigan to Virginia is laughable. Michigan is a horrible team this year. Virginia has 4 losses in the ACC that they could have won, 3 by 2 pts or less and one in overtime. Not to mention about double the wins of Michigan anyway. Again, Butler is a good team, but the schedules have shown that we have proved our ranking more then theirs. I would love for them to replace one of the bottom feeders in the A-10. That would bolster the conference very nicely.

So which is it on this board: is a W a W or does the margin of victory matter? It seems to me that the answer vacillates depending on which better suits our argument.

Brew, I'm with you. Butler's pretty darn good. I think we're better, but they are still a pretty darn good basketball team. The age of their stadium, the number of fans who show up, the TV stations they appear on, the newspaper articles written about them, the money spent by the school, and their record against us when we were both in the MCC does not in any way detract from that. They have no relevance whatsoever.

Butler is a Top 10 team because, with 2 exceptions (both conference road games), they have beaten everyone they've played. Are they really the 10th-best team in the country? Probably not, but we all know that polls are subjective and artificial anyway.

I'm just glad to see that there are at least a few posters on this board (Brew in particular) who know how NOT to lead with his chin... As for the others, well, I think you get the point.

I too respect Butler and their program, I don't respect fans such as boodawg who starts spouting off without clue 1.

Their schedule is far from solid, not that its entirely their fault. Weak MVC/MAC teams, weak Big10 teams (eception in OSU) and weak ACC teams shouldn't impress anyone this year. (Again, they couldn't have forseen Michigan, VT and TTech being bad, just the breaks.)

They deserve a ranking but not so lofty.

Count me in with those that respect Butler's teams and program. I think they are one of the top 20 teams in the country and have a great shot at another S16. I do however think XU has a better team and program historically and currently.

I will be rooting for my other alma mater, Youngstown State University, to beat the Bulldogs tonight in Indy. Not likely, but man would that be sweet. One team of mine helping out the other.
