WHICH SENIORS GET TO STAY?
Exactly who gets the option to come back another year if they so choose due to COVID? I actually heard an announcer mention Nunji. Kunkle? Hunter? ???

The only guys who will be out of eligibility are Kunkel and Boum. Every one else could return.

Re: WHICH SENIORS GET TO STAY?
that is correct
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: WHICH SENIORS GET TO STAY?
So, put a little polyanna polish on next year and just suppose:
Freemantle, Hunter, Jones and (for some reason) Nungi all decide to stay. Edwards and Miles get that Miller touch over the summer and do a Hunter-esque type turn around. And Miller mines the portal to pack some punch in the backcourt (ala…Boum). Claude will do just fine.
Tell me that doesn’t sound sweet!

What about Kam? I hope Sean looks at Tucker as a high upside based on what Tucker has gone through.Alpalpa wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 3:32 pmSo, put a little polyanna polish on next year and just suppose:

Some will be leaving based on having four incoming players so far... Trey Green, Dailyn Swain, Reid Ducharme, and Kachi Nzeh

Re: WHICH SENIORS GET TO STAY?
The who that come back might depend on the who that decide to leave. If Colby leaves (selfishly I think he needs another year), Hunter might come back. If Nunge leaves (don’t think NBA is in his future, so while he and his wife are without kids, enjoy five years or more overseas and make $100-150,000 a year for 6-7 months), Zach comes back and shows he can play an entire season. As much as playing in front of 10,000 every night is exciting (if you play), Tandy and Miles might want to have at least one year of actual playing time. If healthy KyKy can play at most MAC schools and be a factor. At X he would probably remain a spot player and share time with the freshman. Miles has the size that most mid majors do not have and he has three years left. If he works on his muscle and his offense he could be an asset with us next year. It will depend on his patience.
Tough decisions for all—playing time, masters degrees, basketball future, money. I will be glad when this extra Covid year expires.

I hear that Jones and Nunge are probably gone. Those who want Jones to stay typically the longer you stay the less interest you get from NBA teams. Jones could get a two way contract and still make good money. Nunge looks worn out and I hear he wants to move on with his bball career. Not sure about Free but can’t imagine much more he can do here. John Wooden couldn’t turn Miles into a ball players. We have a lot of young talent coming in and I’m sure a few transfers.

Another factor that could impact player decisions is how well the team does in the tournament. Should Xavier make an elite 8 run but lose a close game to just miss the final 4, there may be some desire to be the first final 4 team at Xavier.
Losing Kunkel and Boum could create enough doubt in an even better next year that players opt to move on but they may also trust in the recruits coming in and the potential for dramatically improved defense.
I would love for Nunge, Free, Jones and Hunter to return but can't blame any of them for moving on with their professional careers. If they all move on, that is a lot to replace.
