Wow, hard to believe. I didn't think they would can Steele this year but it was a great move. Now the rebuild can begin. Hope they hire Miller. The days of a free pass on careless passes and indifferent defense are gone I hope. If some the players leave and some will it is still worth it. Steele seemed like a good guy and a good recruiter but he was way over his head as a head coach. Hate to see anybody lose their job but he had his chance. Even if all the high rated recruits leave the firing is worth it. Don't know what or if Xavier will offer Miller . Can Xavier offer anything close to what South Carolina will offer.? Heard Stanley left in the 2nd half of the game. Very sad. Stanley never was given a decent chance even last year. Don't know much about Jonas but I am curious what he does next game if Scruggs starts throwing his bounce passes to his teammate ankles or being lazy and bored in the first half. Also going to watch how he deals with Freemantle's wimpy rebounding and defense. Be nice to see someone hold those guys accountable. Today has been a tremendous day for Xavier fans. it feels like we have a chance to be good again. We all (myself included ) need to get behind whoever They hire and be patient. We are likely looking at at mass exodus with both players and committed recruits. Miller would be a home run for me but I will be behind whoever we hire. Sweet 16 here we come.

My guess is if Xavier shows a lot of love to Miller and doesn't place a lot of restrictions on him like not much pay for the assistants or stipulations on sanctions that may follow him then he comes back to Xavier. If he trusts the AD and President he's back. My daughter went to U of A and still lives in Tucson. Apparently he always spoke highly of Xavier. I doubt we can get anywhere near the South Carolina offer dollar wise but I think he returns. Go X.

If no Sean Miller:

Chris Mooney, Richmond; proven experience, has a good offesive system, could probaby do a lot with what Xavier and the conference bring to the table

17 years at Richmond with 2 NCAA appearances.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Sounds like Miller has an offer from SC on the table but is willing to give XU a day or two to make counter. Reality check: we cannot financially compete. I think Miller made $2.9mm/year at Arizona and Mike Martin made $3.3mm/year at SC. Mack left 4 years ago for $4mm/year at Louisville. Don't think we can come anywhere close to those sort of numbers.

That's a fair point.

That said, Pat Kelsey, # of tournament appearances: 2, both first round exits

It’s usually about money, but maybe not in this case. Sean has ties to the Big East and probably also in Cincy. Maybe with some creative financing we can make a sufficient offer. Besides, how many millions does Sean need? He’s made his money and maybe he’ll think he has a better shot at a final four here rather than in SC. Who knows at this point. Hopefully we don’t land him only to see him carted off to prison in a year or two.

the fed have opted not to prosecute but the NCAA is a different thing. If the NCAA punishes Sean then Sean better have a guy that can run the team while he is suspended. And if Miller is punished then a few other coaches involved in the FBI investigation better be punished also. Self and McDermott. Bruce Pearl had similar problems and got game suspensions. As for how much does a millionaire needs look at all the millionaires in this country and tell me if they just give it up for less than they think they are worth. The last time I looked no coach works for pennies on the dollar as much as we would like it to happen for us.

You need only look 3 miles away from the Xavier campus to see a coach who is staying in Cincinnati for far less than what he could make elsewhere. His family and a Cincinnati itself are big parts of that decsion.
