you are right the last shot could have gone in and the shot that went straight up ten feet in the air could have been a missed shot. Luck comes into play in many games. The important thing is X got the roadkill and it doesn't matter how pretty it looks. X has 14 wins and 3 losses.pdxmuskie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 12:34 amZach should be the whipping boy. His inability to play defense angers me. He could score 50 and I'd probably still be angry with him. Defense is about effort and understanding. There is no excuse for playing terrible defense. A bad defensive player should be embarrassed until he performs or quits. I cannot ever accept bad defense. I cannot accept a coach who does. I also can't be ok with a coach that doesn't do anything about terrible shot selection or condones careless ball security. Travis does seem to have made an effort to improve ball security as turnovers are less a concern than in prior years and earlier games.
The margin of victory is not the problem. It is how the game was played. DePaul is a talented team. Winning by 1 might be great but winning by 1 based on how the game was played is not great. It was a relief. X basically got lucky. They actually played good defense the last possession and it could have easily resulted in a DePaul win. DePaul likely wanted to get a shot off earlier to get a 2nd shot if needed but X defense forced a last 2nd shot which could have easily gone in. The win was luck. Some luck is usually needed to go on a big run so lets hope we didn't use it up on this game.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Depaul game thread
VERY FORTUNATE to have escaped with a road “W” tonight. (Obviously) I could rant for several paragraphs on the many miscues, poor coaching decisions, head-scratching sub patterns & general tomfoolery. Sometimes throughout a long season every decent team lays a few eggs so we shall chalk it up to that I suppose. When I get frustrated, I try to remember just how the poor Blue Demon lifelong fan must have felt at the buzzer. All that said, good golly we are not a smart team. 45 seconds or so left. Clinging to your pathetic 1 pt lead and the ball. We had two timeouts, but Travis for some inexplicable reason, trusted Paul to make the right play. Now one would assume that ‘right play’ would be rather simple. Rotate the ball around the perimeter so that Jack could position himself for a post-up.. Nah, why the heck would we want to do that when we could have our PG recklessly drive the lane so deeply that he then had to make a split-decision high-risk bailout pass that was promptly stolen. ( I just checked ESPN’s site, still showing we won.! ) Take the money & run boys

I disagree. DePaul has accomplished far more than X has as a program.Xavier2005 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:32 pmXavier is the better team and program. But DePaul is a good team...if given the opportunity they can beat anyone. X must take command.

ya know, the part about DePaul's program being better than Xavier's. that part was incorrect.sweet67 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 8:58 amLets stick to basketball instead of personal attacks.X-lucidity wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 8:32 amCongrats Sweet, you win "Pathetic troll attempt of the month" Your trophy is en route via UPS. it doesn't matter how many things you post about DePaul's program, it still won't be better than Xavier's.
thank you for playing.
you can grab your participation ribbon on your way out.

typical sweet, his ancient history replies to prove what doesn't exist in the present. Shame that an 18-year-old Depaul freshman has never seen the basketball team make the NCAA.sweet67 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 8:58 amLets stick to basketball instead of personal attacks.X-lucidity wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 8:32 amCongrats Sweet, you win "Pathetic troll attempt of the month" Your trophy is en route via UPS. Re: Depaul game thread
One comment by the announcer last evening just ahead of tipoff "Xavier needs to match DePaul's intensity" bothers me. That's like the last 3 games I've heard this comment. Sadly its correct as we have had some really, really slow starts. However, I'll take our second half performances all day long..We gutted out a vg win on the road. De Paul has some serious big men athletes for certain.

Re: Depaul game thread
The biggest strength of this team is it's depth. I think 7 different guys have been our leading scorer at some point this year.Tonight it was back to Nunge. It helps make up for the nights when 2 or 3 guys have bad games.Tonight Johnson struggled and Scruggs wasn't particularly good.7 assists but 6 turnovers. Can't have that many TO's from him. He needs to not dribble so much. Overall not a pretty performance but at least we avoided a bad loss. Two road wins already in the league is a plus.If we can pull out a few more,we should be in good shape.
