Re: Pat Kelsey and Winthrop 15-0, 20 game win streak
I don't know how good of a coach he is, but he has had a very nice run at Winthorp, comparable to his predecessor Greg Marshall. I think a lot of people who have reservations about him at X is because of his alleged, odd departure, and his rescinding of the offer from U Mass. I ain't no insider, but if what I've heard from multiple sources is true, there were very legitimate reasons why he left both.
He left X due to a very personal family issue which also involved a member of the bball team and apparently asked CM to discipline or kick him off the team. CM declined, and he bolted. MMan, Hopes, Expert, and others know what I'm talking about.
Word is that when he went to U Mass the day he was going to introduced as the new HC, he found out some players were being paid. I think if both are true, I would have even more admiration for him. We already have a coach who is growing into his role and will hopefully restore success to X and spend his entire career here, so. The jury is still out, but AH is still in his corner. However, if the latter doesn't occur, I hope PK would get serious consideration.

Don't know anything about UMass, but from a deep insider I'm 99% sure you are right about the X circumstances.

this article seems to weigh in on why Kelsey left X. i'm sure the "insiders" on here have heard different things than what this article pertains to and that's fine. my guess is the information/rumors the insiders have on here is NEVER getting out into the public.
either way, kudos to Kelsey for coming out on this.

Good going 2005 you jinxed them and now they have a loss to NCAshville
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Regardless of competition, the record confirms Pat is a good coach. He is recruiting against the type of teams he plays so winning and winning means something.
From my limited interaction with him, he is an intelligent guy and hard worker. Would not be shocked if he walked away from situations with questionable morality.
Despite my harsh comments toward Steele after the Butler win, I am not ready to pull the plug on him just yet. Hopefully he continues to learn and improve but if he proves his talent is primarily in recruiting then I'd strongly advise X gives Kelsey serious consideration.
