Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
Stanley doesn't have to be a world-beater, although it would be nice, just another body that would give X all the options we hoped they would have at the beginning of all this
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
My original post was meant to point out the addition of a player who will provide depth to the area of the paint both on offense and defense. As others have stated better than I --- a player like Stanley will provide additional depth that is now somewhat missing in the paint. In my opinion, X-lucidity said it better than I did!
Fathers James Hoff and Michael Graham, AD Mike Bobinski, and Head Coaches Staak, Gillen, Prosser, Matta, Miller, & Mack represent a Golden Era of Xavier Men's Basketball. AD Christopher and Head Coach Steele will bring us to an even higher level!

Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
I quite agree that he will most likely provide depth on the frontline, just not as a center. Not at 6’6”. I also think that he will most likely be a valuable addition to the team....just wouldn’t expect him to be replacing a 2 year starter. At least not right away.
We see the same thing every off-season with the freshman and transfers coming in. They are all world beaters and are going to be huge upgrades over any of the returning players....according to some of the posters. But that rarely is the actual case. There is a HUGE difference between being a good HS player to being a college starter. When you look at a college roster, and look at the BE competition, virtually EVERY player was the best player on their HS team. Stanley was absolutely a good player for his former school, but the competition in the BE is a big step up from that. Carter has shown that he can compete, even if he can rarely excel, on that level. Stanley has yet to prove that he can. I certainly hope that he can, but I’m not ready to name him a starter. Let’s see him on the floor first.

Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
I believe the quandary here is not the young fine Mr. Stanley, but rather, COVID... Because clearly we all have too much time on our hand to be quibbling about this silly topic. Nobody is saying he is the next Bill Russell. OK, he is not a true center. Duh.......... What he is - is a talented basketball player that seems, from all indications and practice session reports, capable of competing decently at a Big East level. Since X is somewhat thin in depth at the post, this would be a HUGE shot in the arm. Not too mention being a welcome relief and enjoyable reward for a hard working young man to be able to play the rest of this year and next. You want good basketball players on your team. Ben would give us an added dimension of a hybrid post player capable of being added into the mix of line-up combo's and post packages. Who cares if he can or can't guard all Big East opposing centers, that's for the coaching staff to figure out. There will be match-ups where he might not be the right ingredient, but you can be damn sure there will be nights he will come in very handy. It's a "team" thing, ya feel me? How about we get some wonderful news here and get this Muskie on the freaking court. Whad'ya say NCAA.....!

Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
anyone have any comparison on his game to former players?
is he just a bruiser inside like Griffin or can he step out and shoot a 17 ft jumper?
just wondering if, at 6' 6", is he more like a Justin Cage type or more like a "I can't find the right player to compare but someone who can't extend the defense like Cage could" type of player.

Stanley will be especially helpful Sunday if our player who tested positive happens to be one of our big men and won't be available for a while.

Re: NCAA Decision on transfers
Having Kunkel and Stanley eligible is a big plus for them and the team. They can practice all year and know that they might play 5-10 minutes a game—-and they can both be a significant part of the team for two more years. I suspect that Carter, Scruggs and Johnson will not stay another year, so Stanley will get big minutes next year. Our two recruits are front line 4, 5, and maybe a little time as a 3, but they are freshmen. We need the upperclass experience.
I would also think that with the new, proposed transfer rule that will not require a sit-out year, we will find a 4 or 5 who will be able to contribute right away.
Good luck Adam and Ben.
