Re: Cincinnati Game Thread 12.08.18
I think I saw Steele just tell Marshall good shot after he threw up a trey that hit the top of the backboard. He's now 1-7 from 3. He needs to sit the rest of the game. Lack of a box out cost them a bucket on the other end. On an unrelated note, anyone know what Bruiser Flint is up to these days?

Get used to this. Anyone who watches this film will pack it in and make X shoot 3s. They pass on short jumpers to get blocked at the rim and the only decent three point shooters can’t defend enough to play much against decent teams. 5-22 yet keep pumping up threes.

I saw that too. Once again our worst two shooters are taking the most shots. Bad play and coaching. Jones and Marshall should have been yanked earlier for their effort. Why is Welage guarding their best player?

Nice technical Steele. When was the last time Mick was the smarter coach in a game? Steele pulled what Mick did last year. He is trying to deflect his horrendous coaching with his histrionics. We might as well get used to UC dominating the series while Steele is at the helm. On an unrelated note, anyone know what Bruiser Flint or ANYBODY ELSE AT ALL is doing?
There's no shame losing to a better than average team , when you're only a little better than average on the road. However, the product X is putting on the floor is a complete embarrassment. What's worse, the guy in the big seat Steele is the captain of the ship (the Joseph Hazelwood of cbb coaching), and also that Goodin and Marshall continue to take shots greater than two feet. Those two guys' pictures come up when I look up the definition of regression in Wikipedia.

Its not hard to out coach a team that lost 3 players who scored a majority of their points and a first real road game against a team who has lost 13 of 20. Give steel some time to improve and lets see where X is at 3 years from now! So don't want to hear this he got out coached crap!

UC lost their top 3 players, including two who play on NBA rosters. Somehow they adjusted though. Steele got outcoached by Mick, and every other coach with the exception of Miami and Ohio. Back to the dubious CBI tourney, which CM led us to 5 years ago.
You're sounding an awful lot like a lot of UC apologists during Mick's subpar tenure coaching against X, and during the NCAA tourney. Thank God Steele can recruit. Hopefully, it will mask deficiencies elsewhere, including the culture of selfish basketball we saw during the Lyon's years. Until then...…..

Re: Cincinnati Game Thread 12.08.18
Thus far I'm not impressed with Steele's coaching but he does have a shortage of talent and this is a bad match-up for Xavier. UC is a strong defensive team that forces opponents to shoot outside. X doesn't have many shooters this year. That creates a problem but Steele should have done more to teach discipline to Marshall regarding shot selection.
It is also time to hand over the team to Scruggs. Goodin is looking to score too much given that he isn't a great shooter. Scruggs seems to play much better when given control of the team. It also helps that Goodin being off the floor means there is another shooter on the floor. Q can earn his role back but he has to be more passive and figure out the difference between good and bad shots.
It is strange that after a couple games of hot shooting, Harden has seen very little action the past several games.
I do worry Steele is too similar to Mack and it will be many more years before X has a great coach but he shouldn't be judged too harshly until year 3.
