Similarly, to be fair, he got to play with A-10 caliber recruits.longliveskip wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:42 amand to be fair - Miller got to coach against A-10 teams. just sayin.X-Expert wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 9:20 amYeah miller's team was not great last couple years defensively. I was referring to his time at X-particularly when Burrell was a Sr. X didn't have any great stars on offense but pretty good (Doellman, Duncan, Cage) but their defensive seemed to keep them in games as they certainly didn't score like the recent teams do.longliveskip wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 7:35 am
that KenPom ADJ-D rank of 93 for Miller at Arizona last season - he's really a defensive strategy wizard. got those Wildcats guarding really well. #sarcasm
Xavier's KenPom D rank last year was 67, in case you didn't see my other post.

Actually saw us press at the last minutes last night. Glad to see it.
Feel they must try this and other strategies. Their Pack-Line defense isn't working!

Agree 1000%. X had better athletes with length. Wisconsin toyed with X with their half-court offense.

Re: Xavier Defense
A10 sent 2 team to the elite 8. I don't see a reason to qualify anything. Other than Nova, the BE and the A10 are fairly similar. A10 had more terrible team but the core is similar.
I don't care about Miller's teams since leaving X. Miller had X playing great defense. I never saw anything remotely similar from Mack. Even if you believe the BE talent is dramatically better, there is no reason to leave open lanes to the basket or fail to close out on shooters. These things happened consistently during the Mack tenure. Teams making difficult shots is completely understandable. Giving them easy opportunities was the problem.

Re: Xavier Defense
we don't have the "horses/depth/guards" to press teams, even for 3-4 minute stretches during games. won't work vs fundamentally sound teams like Wiscy. do it when you absolutely HAVE TO like we did. pressing has gone way in pretty much 95% of college hoops. Heck, even Huggie Bear is going to find out this season that "Press Virginia" ain't going to work.
figure out a way to get your team to defend for 30 SECONDS without breaking down. that's the key.
