Not trying to be an apologist for Coach Mack's departure, however, finding two inconsistent themes on this Board.
First, there are guys whining about the lack of recruits this season that X had on the horizon, with inference Coach Mack did not work. Conversely, there are those whining that Coach Mack is now offering plenty of recruits Louisville spots.
Well, either he developed relationships, and had good recruits on the line, for X or Louisville, or these recruits are not that good. Which is it?
Since Louisville was an uncertainty, if the recruits were good, X would have benefited. If he was being lazy, the recruits mentioned, possibly heading to Louisville, could not be very good.
Which is it ... or does the truth lie somewhere in the middle and neither complaint is truly valid?
A little consistency needed, X posters!

Re: A little consistency needed, X posters!
There were 3 of us who had season tix for 20 years. 1 is me. 1 deceased this past summer. The 3rd still goes to some games, in luxury boxes usually. His feeling is Mack took the money & ran. This is just "gut" feelings amongst those in that box. Mack is in deep crap just like Sean Miller, maybe not as deep. XU, like Louisville, may be due for some sanctions. So if he is going to coach a school under sanctions, take the 1 paying him the most money. After all, it's all about the money. Sounds like typical luxury box rich boy talk.

My understanding is that Ed Sumner's family took some money from an agent AFTER he was at Xavier. Not sure why you think X is going to get sanctions related to anything that Mack did. UL has surely not been smart over the past Pitino years but hopefully they are not stupid enough to hire a coach who has the same problem as the one they fired. X IMHO will be fine.xu koop scoop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 9:51 amThere were 3 of us who had season tix for 20 years. 1 is me. 1 deceased this past summer. Interesting post. i have actually heard some things as well under Mack's watch. There is a writer out of Indy who commented on Mack's dealings as well when people began asking Whitford questions. I certainly hope not true but I do believe Mack was a little on the edge.xu koop scoop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 9:51 amThere were 3 of us who had season tix for 20 years. 1 is me. 1 deceased this past summer. Not inconsistent at all. You're talking about two different recruiting classes. The 2018 Xavier class isn't very impressive, at least according to the rankings, hence the occasional fan chirping. Meanwhile, the kids that he has now offered via Louisville are very high-ranked kids IN THE 2019 CLASS. They were still potential Xavier gets. And still are. Who knows? But I certainly don't think this point is a sign of inconsistent XU fans!ChitownSteve wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:07 amNot trying to be an apologist for Coach Mack's departure, however, finding two inconsistent themes on this Board.

Chitown,
Good question, but I don't agree with the premise: I don't agree there is an ounce of uncertainty that the minute Pitino was booted, CM's people reached out to L-Ville, and a deal in principle was made that he would take over at year's end. I think CM busted his arse for 8 years, and vacillated from engaged to daydreaming, as reported by some in the know in here his 9th. I've heard Steele was often the quasi HC this year as well. It may be unfair, to speculate on rumors, considering the no. 1 seed, but the meltdown from the Providence game on is telling. Also, meeting with your future employer during the season is bad form, and shows a sheer lack of integrity.

My thinking is that CM pulled up the Top 25 recruits list and started to make phone calls... I'm sure he has an unlimited plan so it didn't cost him anything extra... It was a publicity stunt... Dan

so who has reported that Mack was basically daydreaming all season and just let Steele do all the coaching? where is this coming from?Anti-Homer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 5:42 pmChitown,

the meltdown vs. Providence has ZERO to do with any of this and anyone who tries to connect the two are just grasping at straws and looking for ways to hate on Mack and just create reasons to fill their own anger.
when did Mack actually meet with Louisville during the season? when/who reported this?

Re: A little consistency needed, X posters!
Allegedly word leaked out before the big east tourney to players that Mack had vervbally committed to Louisville and I have heard that from at least 3 close to the program. Players were not happy, so you can only imagine that it could effect their performance. The Sumner thing did happen while he was at X and hurt, but I have also heard that Xavier had no knowledge of the event. Name Steele coach so we can move on.
