I read on another thread that the TV commentators said XU took a bus (about a 12 hour ride) to the Big Apple. Somebody, please tell me that isn't true!

Yes...X's flight was delayed and they were late arriving in New Jersey but this goes back to exam week. If x didn't have exams this week their original flight to New Jersey would have been sooner than it was..they had to wait to go to New Jersey ]because of exams! And that is why I brought the topic up about X not doing well after exams. Exam week effects alot. And Sean Miller didn't use exams because then he would be making excuses and good coaches don't make excuses even if there is some validity to the argument. It is ok for others to make excuses like Bryron and Joe but not the coach even if he believed it did effect the team. And...i don't know if Sean Miller was outcoached this game or not but it is ok to say it if you belive it and if he was outcoached by coach K that is ok because Miller is a great coach but so is coach K even more so because of his 29 years experience.

First of all, you are way too happy about this "proving" you right. Second, the flight was delayed because of weather. Maybe they would have had an earlier flight without exams, but who knows. Did exams make it snow in NJ? No one is arguing that exams don't effect the team. Of course they do. But exams aren't the sole cause. How we lost because the #6 team in the country came out extremely hot. We played bad, but exams wasn't the only reason. I don't think we got outcoached, but we got out-executed. The way we played in the first half wasn't the way Sean drew it up. Again Millerdad, Exams had an effect, but to say that is WHY lossed the game is asinine. It was just one of many factors.

I don't believe that the players were that affected by exams. The players have always had it a little easier than most students and exam week did not seem that exhausting during my days as a student.

The Xavier players are scholars and place exams and learning above basketball games. Exams before Duke....

If there is a real reason that the coach feels is connected to the loss, I don't mind him saying so. All this crap about excuses is just that, a load of crap. Part of improving is looking at things as realistically as possible. If the coach is going to hold back on what he believes are the true reasons that his team was at a disadvantage, then how can the problem be solved?

I have been reading the posts on this website for a couple months now and this thread motivated me to respond because I figured a student should talk about exams. I am sure the basketball guys started studying on Sunday because of the UC game on Saturday. Anyways, let's say that each player studied for 3 hours from Sunday-Thursday, which is a reasonable estimate for the basketball players, because let's face it, they aren't taking Honors Chemistry. That would be five days of studying which would make since because most people had five exams. Now the players actually have to take exams but that will take about 2 and half hours max in day (I took an exam with Jackson and he was done in 45 min.) So at the max each player is spending 5 and half hours with school Tuesday-Thursday and 3 hrs on Sunday and Monday. While this is no doubt a strain mentally, that leaves plenty of time for practice and preparation for Duke. Combine the fact that the team had Monday and Tuesday off I believe, that gives them even more free time-which I def. had this week so they def. had it. So Millerdad, while exams probably did play a part on it, I don't think your reasoning affected the game too much. To put it simply-X played poorly and Duke shot the lights out of the ball. Duke got their loss out of the system at Michigan while we did against Duke. Duke got so many lucky bounces (Scheyer's bouncing three and a couple other layups). So please stop acting like a 4th grade kid by trying to prove everyone wrong because it's not like the guys don't have class work the rest of the season and it's not like we player some joke of the team.

millerdad, real man of genius.....

You knew we'd lose the Duke game before it STARTED....
Your acute insight and extraordinary sense of perception told you we wouldn't play well the 3rd week in December because our history says we can't....And all Coach K had to do was remind his team we just finished exams, and get them to shoot a dismal 61% in the 1st half....

So drink a cold Bud you headbutt happy XU fan, tutor of the foul shooter, and master of the run-on sentence....

Someday you'll be the XU basketball scheduling czar..........and you'll make sure that in the month of December, we will never LOOSE....
