Mack leaving would be devastating. Not devastating in the sense that we take a step backwards 30, 20, 10, even 5 years. Not devastating in the sense that it would end the trend of getting at-large bids and wining a game or two in the tourney. Devastating in the loss of momentum in our trajectory toward being a perennial top-ten team that makes it on short lists for legit contenders. Devastating in the sense that our first final four could be pushed back a decade or more, instead being on the verge of a final four appearance as we are now by positioning ourselves for 2 seeds. Devastating in the sense that Xavier would keep the stigma of a "stepping-stone" program as opposed to a "destination job".
I feel like Mack would be more likely to accept UofL than Wright, but these are two coaches who have the respect of the profession right now and losing either would be a hit not just to the respective programs, but to the Big East.

Re: Mack to...
This is a RUMOR thread vs quite a few FACT threads presented on this forum. Yet the RUMOR thread gets tons of responses vs few to none for some of the FACT threads. Damn! Now I just increased this silly thread.

Re: Mack to...
Not sure if he stays or goes. It would be a setback, however Xavier already is a destination job in many ways. Louisville, IMHO is almost on par with Kansas, Duke, North Carolina and others that are the pinnacle of college ball. Would Louisville offer Padgett the job based on his performance? I believe to date Lville is 16-5. I do consider the lack of success in next year's recruiting class to be a bad omen.

Re: Mack to...
Louisville is going to get into the tourney, barring some kind of huge setback/losing streak.
If Padgett manages to get them to the 2nd weekend, there is no way Louisville can NOT hire him back.
I'm rooting for Louisville's success as much as I am Xavier's.

Re: Mack to...
This is the wildcard. Louisville is sitting at second in the ACC, but still needs a big win to solidify their lock for the tourney. Their only quality win is @Florida State. They have home and away against Virginia, one vs. UNC and onw @Duke remaining. If they can get another signature win, and win the ACC regular season or tourney, and/or make it to a Sweet 16, then the only reason to cut ties with the interim coach is to clean house. But unless they are also going to clean out all the enablers and boosters, I really hope Mack would not accept the job. There was a culture of corruption there, and chopping off the heads will not kill the culture.

Wichita St. loses another one- 3rd lose in the last 5, maybe Gregg Marshall starts to see the writing on the walls and jumps to UL. He makes over $3 mil and is probably a walking legend in Wichita, but one can hope

Anything, of course, is possible - yet no one really knows much past speculation except C-Mack himself. I will add a crumb to this steamy pile of angst & hand-wringing - not that it will accomplish much. ( just as no prior contribution has really accomplished much). I know a guy who is a college chum of Mack's from back at X. This gentleman is not prone to hyperbole and is a sharp dude. His gut is that Mack prefers to stay at X and is really driven to not only make a Final Four but even cut down the nets as a Musketeer. Mack loves the Greater Cincy area and is proud of his local roots. Of course that, plus 5 bucks, gets you a medium Frappuccino at Starbucks.........
