Re: Marquette Game thread 2/18/17
This team is a mess and that has nothing to do with the coach? This team looks lost and were sleepwalking the last two games and that is not a reflection of the coach? Xavier is still playing with scholarship players and other teams lose players and still are successful. Goodwin will be a good PG. If not than that won't be macks fault either

Re: Marquette Game thread 2/18/17
No teams loses FOUR key players expected to be in the lineup and not struggle. Sumner, Blueitt, Davis, Reynolds. We all thought this would be four starters this time last year. There was no way for Mack to replace Reynolds since Jalen did not say he was leaving until AFTER last season. Sumner and Blueitt? Is that Mack's fault? Our two best players out with injuries? Davis? Is his behavior on Mack? No. The team is not a mess, as you say. They are in a transition year. Xavier is not built to be a national contender every year. They still have a good team, but you better learn to adjust your expectations.skyhops wrote:This team is a mess and that has nothing to do with the coach? Actually the staff knew that Reynolds was gone before his junior season started. They assumed Omara would step up. UD, Nova, and Duke all have lost key players yet have not skipped a beat. The lack of intensity and poor play the last few games is related to coaching.

Funny they knew when Jalen himself says AFTER the NCAA loss to Wisconsin he's coming back. You are totally wrong.skyhops wrote:Actually the staff knew that Reynolds was gone before his junior season started. They assumed Omara would step up. Howard is not just "a freshman."skyhops wrote:The last two games we have had no opportunity to win from the start. Mack for some reason has no idea how to motivate this group, so we continue to take poor shoots and play minimal defense. They allowed a freshmen to hit 9 3's most uncontested.
He is a highly regarded freshman who is Marquette's leading scorer and is shooting 53.7% from beyond the arc for the season. He is 65 for 121 for the year.
For the year, Marquette averages 41.6% from deep. On Saturday night, as a team, Marquette was 13/36 or 36.1%, below their season average.
No one is happy with last night's overall performance. There still needs to be a bit of context added to any analysis.

Hey skyhops:
Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that the "mess" that the team is in is Mack's fault as you suggest. What is your solution? Should Mack be fired? That would sure make it easy to attract a new coach who would better Mack's achievements, wouldn't it? The year after Xavier's coach is voted national coach of the year, you fire him. Personally, I think you're blaming Mack for things beyond his control. This year has seen more bad things happen to this team, on and off the court, than any Xavier team in recent memory. Sometimes, "them's the breaks." No reason to abandon ship.

I have never said anything about Mack and of course I would not recommend it. Mack and his staff have looked almost as lost as their players the last few games. plenty of blame to go around besides the refs as some think.

Sky really Duke they might have missing players but look at their rooster. Duke had the three-five -eighteen, and fifty second player in last years recruiting class. Chase Jeter, Grayson Allen Luke Kennard, Matt Jones, Marques Bolden, Amile Jefferon Jayson Tatum and Frank Jackson are all McDonald’s All-Americans Coach K might be a good coach but with the talent he gets he should be in in the NC game every year based on the talent. I might give you Dayton if they were not in a lower class league. My bet with the talent X has still out on the floor they would be at the top of the A-10. Nova lost arch, but return their three best players and have not had any in season injuries.skyhops wrote:Actually the staff knew that Reynolds was gone before his junior season started. I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Marquette Game thread 2/18/17
Nova has been playing with seven just like us many times this year. The last two games Xavier would not have beating Fordham or any other bottom feeder in the A10. Personally I can't stand UD, but Miller coaches defense and makes great adjustments particularly for a team that was misssing its two best players for part of the year. MM, thanks for player evaluation for Duke. The excuses for the last few games are entertaining. At least we are better off than we were in 1983 or whatever some say on this board.

Re: Marquette Game thread 2/18/17
tell me what "key" players Nova has lost? KEY??? Has Brunson missed any game? Hart? Jenkins? have any of their big 3 missed a game? no. we lost our best player for the year, then our second best player the last two games and you think this is on the coach??? seriously?skyhops wrote:Actually the staff knew that Reynolds was gone before his junior season started.
