Uconn is a team mentioned with a total of 20 possible schools. Thoughts?

Why expand? This is a strong conference and is great for fans - we get to see every opponent on our court every year. Unless a potential school is the "perfect" match, why expand? Replace DePaul? Ok - different discussion.

I'm personally all for a 2 team expansion, only if they are consistently good teams. Two that come to mind are Uconn and then a team such as Norte dame (which I know is basically impossible, but just using them as an example). I wouldn't want teams like temple, smu, witchita state, vcu, for example.

The reason to expand is to keep up with the other major conferences. If someone like the ACC moves to 20 teams (as is rumored to possibly happened) and splits into two different divisions, it sets a precedent for future league expansion......... 2 seperate 10 team divisions, with each division playing a round robin schedule against other teams in their division. Top 4 teams in each division move onto the year end conference.
Why? MONEY is always a good answer for questions about motives. Somebody is looking at this as a payday.

The Big East will not kick out anybody. Years ago everyone was calling for Seton Hall to be booted because of a long run of lousy basketball and a drain
on the rest of the conference. As soon as that discussion stopped Seton Hall found itself in the Championship game and for those old enough to remember they had the rug pulled out from under them by a really objectionable ticky tack foul as time was running out on Michigan. Nothing is happening at De Paul because they have a lousy coach in his second stint at that school. Why would any school rehire a guy who accomplished nothing there and nothing at UVA for a number of years with a load of talent! UCONN would be a good addition and also Dayton. A lot of people would not like the Flyers in the BE but its a shame we don't see them any more after many years of good rivalry and exciting games.

The article that started this whole thread states that the ACC is moving to 20 conference games, not 20 teams.

Re: Big East expansion!?
Against expansion as we play all teams home and away. Expansion would end that. Also, UConn - or any other school that wants to maintain
Div 1 football won't join a basketball only conference. I could envision UConn & N Dame if they were in another league for football & basketball only in the Big East, but that still messes up home and away for all teams.

Re: Big East expansion!?
MAC would probably allow UConn in for football. They have done it in the past for Temple, UMass and I believe UCF. This would be especially true if UConn guaranteed maybe 3 MAC opponents in basketball yearly (2 @ UConn, 1 @ MAC team).xu koop scoop wrote:Against expansion as we play all teams home and away. 11 teams, 20 game conference schedule. Everybody still plays everybody. This would be a slam dunk!

Re: Big East expansion!?
The Big East was pulled apart because of the football schools. They generate more revenue and eat a lot more budget. The Non-football schools split (and took the Big East name with them) because the football programs were running everything. This includes UCon, who wanted to be a football powerhouse.
So the questions for UCon are: is basketball your primary sport? Are you content to have a mid level football program? If the answers are both "Yes", I am OK with them joining. And 11 schools is fine! If they still have visions of having a major football program at some point, we don't want them. They will jump ship as soon as a major football conference comes calling.
