I feel really bad for Ed but I'm sure he'll make a solid recovery, unlike this year's team. At best this is a squad that will lose in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. They have no depth and will be exposed big time at the point guard position now.commish118 wrote:muskiefan92 wrote:Even if they do, they'll be one and done. Your concern for Ed is overwhelming!

I think we may be surprised. The hit at point will be lack of a backup. I think Q will be fine. He's not Ed but he's got some experience now and has come along quickly.

Best of luck to Ed and a speedy recover. Biggest concern is obviously no backup PG. Hopefully JP can help if he can illuminate TO's and cut down on fouls.

Hey Muskiefan92, your constant drumbeat of catastrophic metaphors is growing tiresome. I believe everyone on this board realizes you simply cannot lose one of your top two players, a PG to boot, on an already thin guard bench, and not have to reduce expectations. That said, this is the nature of sports. This is why you enjoy the great runs and root for the team through thick & thin. Do you believe that the remaining players in our locker room are hanging their heads and thinking, "oh golly, it would be a miracle if we could just make the dance and win one game - let's do it for Muskiefan..." Hell no, they are competitors that have won at high levels all their lives. No matter what happens from here this season I am excited to watch it play out. Only 1 team will cut down the nets. I cannot wait to watch us take on the Hall and see how we make adjustments. To Mr. Sumner, God's speed in your recovery my man & thank you for the hard work & efforts you gave us this season.
To Muskiefan92, whom I respect and enjoy reading, buck-up dude.

If you know what is going to happen, why even watch? Maybe they will surprise you. Maybe an NCAA tourney experience is all we can hope for now, but so what? MANY of us were still fans when a .500+ season was all it took to be considered successful. You know what? We all survived those lean years and have enjoyed the heck out of the years of NCAA and national success the team has experienced since those days. I'm not going to lose any sleep over how the team does and I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the rest of this seasons journey. As long as the players play hard and give an honest effort, as long as they continue to hustle and fight, I think they will win most of their games. Even without Ed they still have a lot of talent. It might not be top 20 talent, but there have been a lot of teams without top 20 talent that have still had enjoyable runs through the season and post season. Let's just relax and see what happens.

Ignorant, amateur opinion forthcoming, but....
... Ed should have been shut down weeks ago for that shoulder. Get him right so he could get right for the NBA this summer. He's 21 so his days as a high-end prospect effectively end in six months.
Of course, that is NOT why he injured his knee. Just horrible horrible luck. But I can't help but worry that our coaching staff put their own immediate needs/goals ahead of a kid who in all honesty could be the most purely talented player in program history. You gotta do right by your kids. And, selfishly speaking, Ed having a good NBA career does more for Xavier big picture than his playing with one arm and us going 22-10 and losing in the second round this year. He shouldn't have been out there.
Not sure all or any of that's the way it was, but it's a thought that's been nagging at me as a fan and it makes me feel ill. Wishing Ed the very best!

Enjoy each game for what it is. Us oldsters remember when we were lucky to watch 3/4 games a year, cause that's all that was on TV. So we didn't care about winning or losing records or making the dance. We were happy to see the men play. A win to me is just as much fun in the refular season,
the conference tourney or the big dance.
