Chances within the NCAA Dance????

Postby Xavier2005 » Thu Jan 19, 2017 3:58 pm

It is still too early to tell of X's chances within the NCAA Dance ...should they make it. However, right now, with NO real great wins in their record...I would guess "same as last year". Lose in the second round and no sweet 16 , because this team so far does NOT look as good as last year's team...so far.

As I stated previously, Xavier has landed themselves in territory close to the bubble. Georgetown and Cincinnati are must wins IMO. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of time left and things could change - but I'm not seeing it. If anyone of our Big three have an off night, things get dicey. There are many parts that aren't clicking. How many three's are we going to jack up this weekend? The time for this team to come of age is right now. Go X!

Not to be contrarian or start an argument X is nowhere near the bubble right now. If you remember two years ago X was 9-9 in league play and had 13 losses overall. People were worried then and they ended up with a 6 seed. They have plenty of opportunities to improve on their resume. Now, if they don't right the ship things could change. I personally believe they will get it together starting on Sunday.

When some question whether X has has any good wins some point out Clemson as a good win. Clemson has now lost 5 in a row. Lost to Louisville by 30+ tonight. We need to get some GOOD wins. I suspect 10-8 in Big East puts us on the bubble. Anything better we are in. Worse NIT. Of course Conference tournament will have a big impact. Of course UC game is huge.

they have only failed me one time in history on my birthday...I do not expect it Sunday.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Just an outsiders view, I think X being on the bubble is crazy talk. YOu guys are good and came VERY close to going 2-1 during that stretch. I think the doom and gloom/bubble talk would be more accurate if these 3 recent losses were not Nova/Butler/Creighton, two of which were on the road.

A good road win (UC or Creighton / or going 4-5 or better on the road in the Big East) should help pave the way.
Need to beat Butler or Nova at home & at least 6-3 at home in Big East. Lost from last year: DAVIS / ABELL / FARR & REYNOLDS. The only bad FT shooter of that bunch was Reynolds. New this year: BERNARD (a pleasant surprise) / GOODIN / GASTON & JONES - both under 50% FT. The Big 3 are carrying us this year & Bluiett has struggled recently. I look for any combo of the following to take a giant leap forward down the stretch, GASTON (make FTs & they won't foul as much) GATES (play inside like Farr as a Jr/Sr, not like Farr as a Fr/So) GOODIN (watch Sumner & learn)
JONES (make FTs,gain confidence) O'MARA (I can only hope, he's big & his career fuse is getting short). ps-Our 1st trip to the Elite 8 in 2004 always comes to mine when we have good/not great teams like now. That team finished 8th in the A10 Conference & 8th in the NCAA. They had to beat St B, then #1 undefeated St Joe in the A10 Tourney (destroyed St Joe - up 30 by halftime at UD Arena), then beat GW and then win the A10 Tourney.
4 wins in 4 days in A10 Tourney after losing twice to Duquesne in regular season. This got us a 10 seed & we then beat #7 Louisville, #2 Miss St, #3 Texas before losing a barnburner to Duke - who we probably beat if Anthony Myles doesn't foul out with 16 minutes to go. Anthony Myles tremendous improvement late in that season is what drove us thru the A10 & NCAA Tourney. Is there a Myles or two in the wings this season.

I think its pretty simple 21 or less wins and that's bubble territory IMHO........More than 21 and I think we are in

Any favorable perception we might have been getting awaiting MD's return has not been taken off the board, so one thing is clear they are going to have to earn the berth. If you got hot when he returned and got some nice wins you probably would get less negative impact for the recent losses but not so much anymore. Hopefully his situation does not impact other players in terms of perception once the season is over. Hate to see more guys leaving early. Fingers crossed.
