Just heard we got him..we are excited, sorry for your loss. Chattanooga is two hours from Nashville, so, he is closer to home.
We are getting reports he has 3 years to play.
Anybody here explain that to us?
2014-15 Redshirt at Xavier
2015-16 Played at Xavier
2016-17 sit out for transfer
2017-18 play at Chattanooga
2018-2019 play at Chattanooga
So, how would he get that other year? Was 14-15 a medical redshirt?
Thanks.

Not a medical redshirt, so not sure how he will have 3 years left, but they may feel good about the NCAA granting and additional year.
You are getting a very fine young man with tons of potential. He is NOT a polished interior player offensively or defensively, but prefers to play on the outside. Very tall, long reach, thin. I'm sure that all here wish him well.

It seems the fact that he has ended up at a mid major would indicate that there was not a lot of interest by major programs.

Good luck to Mr London. Closer to home, I hope he polishes the rough spots and makes some noise for his team.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

If there was a player out there exactly like London with the same transfer availability as he has, do you think X would take him? I do.

Muncie - there is a big difference because ML was here for two years and did not progress as we thought he would. Now were he is going they see it as a big get because he is transferring from a major program. They do not know if he will be good but he is probably better than what they have. I wish him well because he seems to be a fine young man. Go Xavier!

Your gain is our tremendous loss. He only played sparingly, but performed quite well with his precious few minutes. You tube his performance against USC, where he played his most extended minutes, and showed an array of skills, including a behind the back pass, the ability to dribble in space, and shoot from the outside. Best game of the year, then his playing time diminished.
He is athletic, a shot blocker, and a good outside shooter - at 6'10" no less. he is also a great kid. X has had tremendous success with incoming transfers. Unfortunately, law of averages starting to swing the pendulum the other way on this one.

Unless the new bigs are very good, I think Makinde London would have played much more this coming season. I doubt that any of the returning or new bigs have his length and talent. If he had the interest and will to develop as a dominant low post player, I think he would have achieved that here. He stated that he wanted to be closer to home, so I take him at his word. Not much X could do about that. He may have progressed during past season of practice more than some assume, just found himself behind two very good seniors and Sean O'Mara who was much more developed as a low post player. When we see Gaston and the two freshman bigs we will get a chance to assess whether Makinde would have seen more minutes. I also wish him the best, and I think we will miss him in 2016/17

Re: Makinde London to Chattanooga
If he thought, and the coaches communicated, that he would be seeing a lot more playing time next season, he would have stayed. Chris Mack stated earlier this past season that he needed to learn how to practice, and if he did he would become a great player for us. If you don't practice hard, and you don't play defense, you don't get minutes at Xavier. He also loved to play perimeter, which may be another reason he wanted to transfer. I am sure the coaching staff was trying to get him to be a LP player.
Good kid. I hate losing him. But any speculation he was going to be great, this is a great loss for Xavier, or he would have been given a lot of minutes has no merit... just like my speculation above. Truth is, he wasn't happy here. If your not happy with what you are doing and not totally committed, you are not going to be as good as you can be. He obviously wasn't and he needed a change. That is good for him and good for the program.
