I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
First of all Finn was a piece of dirt and it never ceases to amaze me that you continually come to his defense. I say that not because he was caught smoking dope or caught selling crack (which in both cases is true) but because he physically abused a young lady.....and that's where I personally draw the line. Secondly, I don't buy your entire premise regarding Stan. SB came into X as a scorer. That was his role his first 2-1/2 seasons and he did it quite well. He went into a shooting funk late last season and I don't think he has ever recovered. So what did he do? He re-invented his game and placed significantly more emphasis on defense. I simply don't accept the argument that Stan is struggling offensively because he is concentrating on defense. I think it is more accurate to say that because Stan is struggling offensively he is concentrating more on defense. While the two statements may sound like the same thing they are really polar opposites.Masterofreality wrote:With the risk of raising the wrath of some,
Many on this board jumped all over Dedrick Finn in his senior year because he had "lost his shot." Many could not see how D had really focused on his defense to the detriment of his offense and he was roasted.
The point is this. Stanley is going through the same struggles with his shot. Know why? It's damn hard on the legs, no matter how conditioned an athlete you are, to chase a guy around the court, fight through screens and stay stuck like glue to him. That stuff takes a toll when you sell out defensively like that and the legs are your shot launcher. That is why a lot of guys just won't buy into the defense- they need the scores and the accolades that come with it and won't put in the effort. Result, nice individual stat line but team loss.
Please, folks. Don't any one jump on Stanley for his offense being somewhat off this year. He's sacrificing some offense for the team's greater good. If anyone ever had any doubts, Stanley Burrell is a winner and a leader by example. Dante and Adrion will do well to learn the lessons that Hammer is teaching this year.

Muskieman, can you "sticky" the scalp thread? This thread, unlike The Hawk, must not die.

Sweet16 - Even if you are correct that Stan focused on D because of his struggles on O (not saying I buy that), that still says a lot about the team player he is. For a player to reinvent his game (especially in a way that really doesn't show up on a stat sheet), says a lot. He just wants the team to win and will do whatever it takes.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
I agree True and believe me I'm not a Stan basher. I think he is a very important part of this team and a major contibutor to their success. I just find it puzzling at times that some people come on here and talk about Stan being THE complete player. As our shooting guard Stan has a hole in his game right now so he is not a complete player. Others say that SB is our team MVP and still others say he is our most unselfish player. Well, IMO the first statement is an insult to Drew (clearly the team MVP) and the second an insult to Duncan and BJ (who scarificed starting roles for the betterment of the team).

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
Dedrick Finn obviously had some off court issues, but I never, ever heard of him "abusing a lady." My Musketette daughter knew him and she says that was never a case. The dognapping thing? Just stupid juvenile stuff that happens on college campuses all the time. The students who were there and familiar with it laugh about it today. What has happened since he earned his Xavier degree is unfortunate, but currently legally unresolved. Suffice to say, though, that he should never have been involved with anything remotely associated with criminal activity. I hope whatever the outcome is, that he's able to still build a productive life.
My reference to DFinn was his effort on the basketball court, which was never a question to me. He wasn't dismissed for any basketball related activity, so the focus of my post was for what he did between the lines. No one sure had a problem with him when he's scoring 22 points in an NCAA game. Every one loved him when he was hustling his a$$ off on defense. I didn't hear any one complaining when he hit a huge 3 pointer to give XU a win at Miami(FL) in his senior year. Now some want to continue to paint him as the worst point guard in XU history. Revisionist history.
Some can choose to trash the kid for whatever. His off the court activities warrant criticism. On the court? Not so much.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
I lost my scalp, but Burrell had nothing to do with it.
I do wish his offense would come back a little, though. As valuable as he's been on D, and he's been great, he's scored between 4-8 points in 5 of our last 6 games, which is his least productive stretch so far this season. That puts that much more pressure on the other 4 guys to take up the offensive slack.

Juvenile stuff? Happens all the time? Laugh about it today? Dismiss it if you like but I can tell you that the young lady he roughed up and her family weren't laughing. The only thing that saved his punkass was the fact that the family dropped all charges so as not to drag the daughter through the mud. He was a thug the day he walked on campus and he remains a thug today.

Re: The scalp tab of Stanley Burrell
sweet, I don't know Finn personally, so I can't say what kind of guy he is, but he only pled guilty to the theft (dog), not any assault and/or battery charges. I'm not saying that the woman's allegations were untrue, but to those of us who weren't in the room at the time, that's all they are-allegations.
Finn's no saint by any stretch, but he, like anyone else, should only be held accountable for those things we KNOW he did, as opposed to those things that someone else SAID he did. If allegations made things true, no defendant could possibly ever prevail.
