perks..yes...i think his last contract included a country club membership and cars. If Miller wanted to use money as leverage to leave, that would not change if he makes 900k or 1.3...fact is big boys can offer more than twice...see matta...but its clearly not the money sean seeks and it has to be obvious to everyone by this point that seans view of xavier, present and future, is very different than thads after his elite 8 sucsses at x.
Sean Miller will roam the sidelines at the cintas for the next decade

I hope jamie dixon moves on soon, and when sean tells pittsburgh he has no plans on leaving cincinnati, then just maybe do u think folks on this board will show some faith in Coach Miller

LOL
I wish I got a cut.
No, I don't need to brag to my buddies about what someone else makes.

Bobinski, not I, stated that XU's goal was to make Miller the highest paid coach in the A-10. They did that last year until Majerius too the St. Louis job. They had the chance to correct the situation this year, but choose not to. Who has the "hotter" name right NOW. Miller or Majerius? No contest.

This has been going on for quite a while ago. Prosser was making less than Purnell, when Purnell was at ud.

If XU is the premier job in the A-10, then we need to pay like it is, especially since Miller and others have made XU the league's best program.

Agreed... Miller is not here just for the money.
Agreed...There will always be a bigger pay check somewhere else.
Agreed. If it is just about money, XU probably loses out everytime....

I think "total compensation" was supposed to include those other perks. Maybe it doesn't include all those perks, but then neither does other coaches packages either...

However, Ford just left Umass, where he did exactly what I ask, for OKSU for $1.3M... We can't match that?

I don't know where Dow gets his info, since XU does not need to disclose, but I will assume he is right.

If the extension described below, and at least 1.65 million a year, didn't keep Crean at Marquette, there's no reason to blithely assume Miller will serve out this contract at X, either. He may or he may not.

Posted: Sept. 19, 2006
Marquette University on Tuesday put the wraps on a contract extension that will keep eighth-year men's basketball coach Tom Crean in charge of the Golden Eagles through the 2016-'17 season.

Terms were not disclosed but based on Crean's previous salaries, the new deal figures to keep him in the upper echelon of college basketball coaches in the country.

The Journal Sentinel reported in March that Crean was paid $1.65 million for the year ending June 30, 2005, a bump of about $525,000 from the previous year.

Not saying Sean will be here forever but he does seem to be true to his word. The difference between him and Crean though is Crean has a huge ego (they don't call him Tommy Naismith for nothing), thinks he invented the game and was always trying to find a new gig every year. He finally landed the IU job after being the 3rd choice this year. Crean also only had a buyout of 500K at Marquette. I don't think Money was what this most recent contract was all about. I think Sean felt it was more important to sweeten the deal for his assistants and I also think there was a deal to upgrade travel as well. If Sean was all about the money then Xavier would work a deal to indicate that but that is obviously not what Sean was asking for.

Hope you're right, j, but, without being too obvious, coaches are here until they're not. All our other coaches have found found the grass greener at some point-Staak after 5 years, Gillen after 9, Prosser after 7, and Thad after 3.

So, with Miller coming up on year 5, he's got ample opportunity to follow the path of his predecessors and say bye, or outlast them. We can go on about all the reasons he should stay, but they're OUR reasons, not Sean's.

I hope he stays, but nobody should be surprised if he leaves at some point. The surprise will be if he doesn't.

Has the grass always been greener? History says no for the majority and the jury is still out on Thad. Yes Thad is a good coach but OSU is not Kentucky, Duke, UCLA etc... and next year might not be much different for him. If he misses the NCAA again how much longer will it be for him to start hearing the natives get a little restless at the football factory? Or maybe they don't care. Yes he took them to the final 4 but so did O'Brian and look what happened to him just a few years later. Sean is set at Xavier for as long as he wants to be but it is not a given that he will be set should he except that next enticing offer. Just ask Bob & Pete.

<<Has the grass always been greener?>>

Rightly or wrongly, our last four coaches all thought so at the time they made their decision to leave. In retrospect, you can argue that Staak and Gillen should have stayed, but they didn't.

There is no school that can say when we pick them they stay. Coach K might be an exception but I think if he felt he could take the egos and crazies he would go to an NBA team. I think Coach K realizes his game might not be suited for the pros because of the type of players.

That being said, I believe that Sean is a chip off the old block and his dad had opportunities to move up and he stayed at the same place for over 30 years. and to point out look at xudash topic on Decoursey and the statement:

"When the Marquette job opened and its fans wondered if Xavier's Sean Miller would be interested in moving, the answer was obvious -- but not to them. They reasoned that because they were in the Big East and because that league is superior to the Atlantic 10 he naturally would want the job. He didn't."
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
