It’s usually about money, but maybe not in this case. Sean has ties to the Big East and probably also in Cincy. Maybe with some creative financing we can make a sufficient offer. Besides, how many millions does Sean need? He’s made his money and maybe he’ll think he has a better shot at a final four here rather than in SC. Who knows at this point. Hopefully we don’t land him only to see him carted off to prison in a year or two.
the fed have opted not to prosecute but the NCAA is a different thing. If the NCAA punishes Sean then Sean better have a guy that can run the team while he is suspended. And if Miller is punished then a few other coaches involved in the FBI investigation better be punished also. Self and McDermott. Bruce Pearl had similar problems and got game suspensions. As for how much does a millionaire needs look at all the millionaires in this country and tell me if they just give it up for less than they think they are worth. The last time I looked no coach works for pennies on the dollar as much as we would like it to happen for us.
You need only look 3 miles away from the Xavier campus to see a coach who is staying in Cincinnati for far less than what he could make elsewhere. His family and a Cincinnati itself are big parts of that decsion.
If you are talking about UC what school has been seeking a interview with him. They couldn’t hold on to the YTG when the money was good just like X couldn’t retain Chris. It is always the money and UCLA just made the YTG the richest coach in the pac 12. Who is to say how much is too much?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I think he's talking about UC football Coach Fickell... Dan

Okay, looking at basketball and my mind didn't go to football, my bad. I think Fickell will leave too just that the job he wants is not open and we all know what job that is. I also think ***** might think twice about a move if a top 2 SEC team would come at him with big dollars. If you look at our past coaches none jumped at the first dollar job because they wanted a certain few teams that would also pay bigger bucks. Example: Chris w Tenn.

I do hope that, if X gets Miller, his view of the job has changed and he looks at X as home and he can be a legend nationally here at X.

I am encouraged that the Sean Miller quest is taking so long. Hopefully we can find some way to make a decent offer and get Miller. I remember last time Miller left to go to Arizona it took him about a week to decide. Xavier is just a better basketball job than South Carolina. I think Miller is very aware that the Big East is a lot easier league to compete in than the SEC. Not as easy as Gonzaga has it in the WCC but quite a bit easier than the SEC. Feels like the program is at a critical phase and could slip into a Georgetown like slide .Marquette lost by 32 points and Seton hall lost by 27. Providence looked average in their opening game and could lose to Richmond today. Outside of Villanova the Big East is pretty average. Miller could turn things around pretty quickly I believe.

Kevin, I think you are right. I think Sean leveraged the South Carolina job to get Xavier to open up, so he's always been interested in X.He saw the handwriting on the wall for Travis and wanted to be there to get the opportunity. He was always going to go through the process with X no matter what... Sean wants X to show him some love. I think it is the AD and President's deal to make or blow. Of course, we want Sean and all the big donors I know do to but many sure things have been screwed up before so X needs to get it right. I do think at Sean's age and his wife, Amy's love of the Cincy area could make X Sean's destination place...unless the fans turn on him but that would never happen again, would it!

My Time frame for all of this" optimistically..maybe today The longest maybe early next week After that the concern is who else(School) has entered the picture that we don't know about.

PS I am an optimistic kind of guy so La’el and Sean make it happen guys
