Florida big man get release
Basketball center Kenny Kadji asked Florida for his release and it was given, coach Billy Donovan said in a press release.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Florida big man get release
He was the #6 Center in the 2008 class, according to Rivals, 4 spots ahead of Kenny Frease. Redshirted last year after a back injury. Posted a 4.4/2.7 in 12.5 MPG as a freshman.
Complain about Kenny Frease if you like, but he's put up as serviceable as a career as his peers in that class.

You named one peer that had a back injury. That doesn't exactly make a point.smileyy wrote:He was the #6 Center in the 2008 class, according to Rivals, 4 spots ahead of Kenny Frease. Redshirted last year after a back injury. Posted a 4.4/2.7 in 12.5 MPG as a freshman.

I think it has been rehashed several times here the Kenny's peers aren't exactly lighting it up for the most point. I believe that post references additional statistics instead of just that one player.finalfourorbust wrote:You named one peer that had a back injury. Re: Florida big man get release
Because I had time to kill at work, in order of draft ranking on rivals, and stats for their best season so even if they had an injury it is better than their other season:
BJ Mullens
PPG: 8.8 RPG: 4.7 BPG: 1.1
Ty Walker (had injury)
PPG: 1.9 RPG: 1.4 BPG: 1.1
Tony Woods
PPG: 4.6 RPG: 3.2 BPG: .8
J'mison Morgan (had injury)
PPG: 1.9 RPG: 1.3 BPG: .8
Mike Dunigan
PPG: 9.0 RPG: 4.9 BPG:1.3
Kenny Kadji
PPG: 4.4 RPG: 2.7
Ty Zellar (had injury)
PPG: 9.3 RPG: 4.6 BPG: .9
Jeff Withey (had injury)
PPG: 1.3 RPG: 1.4 BPG: .4
Kenny Frease (Did slightly worse last year, but basically the same in both years)
08-09 PPG: 5.4 RPG: 3.7 BPG: 1.3
09-10 PPG: 5.1 RPG: 4.3 BPG: .6
There are the stats, take them for what you will.

Re: Florida big man get release
I've said this time and time again-if KF worked his tail off last year in the weight room, over the summer, and focused more on basketball and less on partying I wouldn't have complained about him at all, but the reason I started bashing him is because he didn't do that. He's essentially going to school for free, and he couldn't even put in an hour a day last summer. He's obviously changed and putting in the work this year so far, but just realize where a lot of us are coming from.smileyy wrote:He was the #6 Center in the 2008 class, according to Rivals, 4 spots ahead of Kenny Frease. I clearly understand that big men take longer to develop, but KF hindered his own development, so once again, it's tough to use that fact either.

I've said it before, but it's all about expectation. If KF showed up as the #229 HS player, we'd probably be fine with his production to date.
But when you're a 7-foot, top 50 player, honestly, more is expected out of you. Maybe that shouldn't be the case, but it IS the case.
Hopefully, his last 2 years will be solid, productive seasons.

Also, I think it is ridiculous that you guys are justifying Kenny's mediocre to poor performance because comparable recruits are not living up to their expectations either. First of all, most, if not all, of these other guys are playing in Big 6 conferences where they don't get free stat games like KF could get against some of the weaker teams (3/5 of Kenny's double digit games were against sacred heart, duquense, and fordham). Granted the other 2 were big, clutch performances against Butler and UF, but he had the potential to have more big games then some of those other guys. Also, I cant speak for all the injuries but you can't fault Zeller for getting hurt, he just came down awkward on his wrist.Mr. Neutral wrote:I've said it before, but it's all about expectation. Re: Florida big man get release
The competition argument is weak. X has had a very good RPI for a reason. The big 6 schools have plenty of weak competition inside of conference and out. The A-10 was deep last year with the league being a bucket away (if I recall correctly) from an all A-10 NIT championship.
There is no doubt that the effort made by Kenny last summer was disappointing. The dedication simply hasn't been there. Maybe it was difficult for him to adjust to sitting on the bench or maybe he just wanted to be a kid and have fun.
The numbers posted show that Kenny is doing just fine compared to the other big men of his class. Maybe he could have been at the top of his class if he worked harder or maybe X would have advanced past K-St but maybe not. There is still a lot to learn and plenty of mental issues to deal with regardless of the work put in. There is also the possibility that he would have worked himself into an early draft status and X would have no Center this coming year. Maybe he did the fans a favor and delayed his departure.
I'm glad to see him making the effort now and hope he puts up monster numbers this year and next.

Re: Florida big man get release
so you're happy out 7 foot center had a mediocre to poor year and played 5 minutes in the biggest game of the year so he couldn't leave early for the NBA? Sure the kid can have fun but people are still giving him too much credit. Im pretty sure you can have fun and still shoot 50 free throws a day, much less the whole summer.
