Xavier Not a Major Program

Postby somebody » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:41 am

Or so the The Saginaw News thinks. In speaking of Brad Redford they say:
The Frankenmuth point guard is not going to a major program, although Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, has a better team than many ''majors'' from big conferences.
Thanks guys! In speaking of his accomplishments they note:
The 6-foot guard is having one of the best seasons in the history of high school basketball in this state. And while his teammates complement him, Redford is not surrounded by other NCAA Division I players, as Green is.

Still, Redford averages 37 points a game and has led the Eagles to an improbable 14-0 record and a No. 4 ranking in the Associated Press Class B rankings.

''I think about Mr. Basketball a little more now ... it's always in the back of your head,'' Redford said. ''But it's not something you can control, so you only think about it when someone brings it up.''

Redford already owns the state record for consecutive free throws at 75 ... and counting. The number is fourth in national high school history. He needs one more to tie for third and 11 to tie for second. We don't even have to consider Daryl Moreau's record of 126 consecutive free throws -- Redford may not even get to shoot 126.

And the Saginaw News is not a "major" newspaper, or even a "mid-major." And the person who wrote the article is an idiot.

Anybody think of the name "Gerry McNamara" from Syracuse when the name 'Brad Redford' is used?

This kid sounds like a winner plus. It's a big adjustment from High School to College, but winning is inherent. I love that we'll have a "Sniper" other than the one formerly known as Jesus Christ.

The Saginaw writer is obviously in cahoots with Tom Izzo and Green's high school coach.
He is a big fish in a loud but little pond and not worthy of all this attention. If I didn't know better I'd suspect someone tried to get Redford to change his mind before he signed the national letter. Just a thought.
The young man appears to be the real deal...Hey, 37 points a game would be tough to average with only one or two players on the opposing team in the game at one time. This kid may press for a starting role. But can he play defense?
I know, who cares if he can average 37 points a game which in all likelihood he won't in college. Twenty ppg would be nice, however. With that class coming in the future looks extremely bright.
