X wont make the initial field, but we will be one of the four at large replacements and slide into a high seed after Covid knocks out a few qualifiers.
Book it.

Re: X will Dance due to Covid
so far there are 3 teams that were suppose to make MM with the coronavirus . I think that number would have to reach 5 to 10 teams disqualified due to having the coronavirus before X would be considered lol.

Re: X will Dance due to Covid
For this to happen,
1) A team in the field of 68 has to withdraw from the tournament, but few teams would be willing to do that unless it is forced upon of them; unlike the regular season, in the post season most teams will go on with depleted rosters;
2) A team also has to withdraw at least 2 days prior to the first tournament game; that means by next Tuesday evening;
3) Enough teams have to withdraw so that the Committee goes far enough down their list to wherever they have X;
4) Xavier cannot be in covid protocol itself.
Also... what happens if Xavier has already accepted a bid to the NIT when they get an invite to the Big Dance? Can they play in two tournaments?
The NCAA was very vague about the possibility of replacements. All they said is that there would be no replacements as from 48 hours prior to the first tip off.
So it would have to happen on Sunday, almost immediately after the field is announced. Very unlikely overall...

Re: X will Dance due to Covid
As far as I know, there have been no public statements about replacements beyond that no replacements will be made after the 48-hour threshold. This seems to imply that replacements will be possible from Sunday evening through Tuesday evening. But nothing about such a process has been made public. If they do do this, they will have to have a rather long list of 10 or more teams ready to go. Maybe they will have a "first four out" and "next four out." Maybe they will say conference tourney runner ups automatically replace auto bids. Everything is speculation now and whatever they do will be controversial.basket wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 4:53 amtacitus wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 2:05 amFor this to happen,

The replacements are from the first four out. And the deadline is 6pm Tuesday. I'm guessing because of this Covid issue, the first four out will be announced Sunday, because they have to meet the protocol also.

Re: X will Dance due to Covid
Nooooo. Per the rules , all replacements are put in before the end of Tuesday night...before they start play on Thursday. After Tuesday night there are no replacements ..just games Forfeited due to the Virus. So Xavier is placed in the field of 68 before Tuesday night. Then Xavier wins 4 or 5 games straight by forfeit /due to those teams getting the Virus and POOF Xavier is declared National Champions without playing a single game. LOL

Re: X will Dance due to Covid
Enough of this - trying to get in the back door by scheduling more games, or hoping that covid protocol will sink another team. Xavier is not a tournament worthy team, period. I'm not here to continue to bash Steele; there's been plenty of that to go around. But it's time to face that facts. Xavier is barely an NIT team. The steep downward trajectory of this program continues to gain momentum. Such a pity.
