Lunardi is irate at ESPN's Digger Phelps

Digger can be such a mooncalf.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Their are two people that I cannot watch on ESPN, Bilas and Phelps. Vitale is pretty close. Quit talking about the Duuuuukies.

I think Digger is getting senile. Last night in the tenn. game he thought the team up by one should foul with less than 30 seconds on the clock. The other guys asked him about three or four times if he was serious and he kept defending his position. Guess he wasn't watching and didn't know the game situation and when they went off camera someone must have filled him in and he changed his mind laughing about it. It wasn't that he was wrong that was just a mistake it was how hard he argued the point

Richard Phelps was an ass when he coached and he has not changed in all these years. He was first and foremost a self-promoter at Notre Dame and secondly a coach and cheerleader of the Fighting Irish. I am experiencing sheer delight because almost everything he says in the presence of Bob Knight is contradicted by Knight and with precision, expert knowledge of the rules and the experience of winning national championships and more games than any male coach in the history of the game. Simply put, Knight feasts on the buffoon's ignorance.

I can't believe Digger Phelps would dare accuse anyone else of bias towards a school that they work for or have worked for after some of the things he's said about Notre Dame over the years. He's as big of a Notre Dame homer as Lou Holtz. In years past when Notre Dame was on the bubble, but had no business being in the tournament he would go off on a huge rant about how they deserved to be in.

Digger is starting to look and sound a lot like Hugh Downs, except Hugh usually made sense.

Wasn't there a problem when we played ND in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember visiting my family and watching the game in Illinois and a live mike caught the exchange at the scorer's table?

Also, my mind is slipping fast, but I can't remember the dirty trick Knight pulled on us at Indy in 93.

I now know what it means to say A MIND IS A TERRIBLE TO WASTE AS YOU GROW OLD.

We played ND when they had Kelly Tripuka and Bill Lambeer (sp?). Phelps got irate complaining that the Muskies were beating up on the ND'ers. As I recall he directed some of his complaints to Jim McCafferty who was sitting courtside.

Thanks
That was it. Digger came over to Big Jim to complain.

You gotta love it when a coach complains about Kelly Tripuka and Bill Lambeer are "getting beat up."

Digger had a great year at Fordham, and when asked what he did best at Fordham he said, "campaign for the Notre Dame job."

Yeah, he wasn't the best coach in the game, but he was sure as hell a great recruiter and motivator .. and yes .. a showman who knew how to work the media. Some of me fondest memories was sitiing with Digger, Big Jim, Al McGuire, and Bob Calihan. I wish I had those sessions on tape.

BTW, give Digger credit (and Big Jim's friendship with him).. he'd play us, even Home and Home.
