Sky, while I have agreed with you often, you are wrong about X being .500 in conference.

Nunge had a bad game. Kunkel was a disaster for most of the game but came through in the end. The bench is very limited but Hunter was huge tonight. X does not win this game without Hunter.

Free had an amazing game. A mistake here and there but he was absolutely huge. Next best player is a toss up between Jones and Hunter.

Add to that that Souley had an off game, especially in the second half with only 2 points, scoring only 10 points and X still scored 73. Hunter was a factor in the second half when they needed it. Jones had the best defensive stop forcing a travel toward the end there. Nice to see we can win when we have off night players
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Hunter had a big game and so did Freemantle. Nunge looked tired. We are going to have to fight for every win. The crowd was kind of quiet. Man Miller works hard. LOL. Go X.

X was 23 assists on 26 made shots... #1 in nation

Sean gets a game ball with his going small lineup at times.

Sometimes you just need to win ugly and that was ugly. SH is a tough minded team so I will take the win. Did exams week have anything to do with the lethargy? I stand by my comments. Claude will be a X great if he stays. Being a frosh in the Big East is no day at the beach. Patience is a virtue. Practice it if you can seldom in a women but never in a Muskie fan.

It was an ugly win but also a really good win. SH is all about defense and playing ugly. X is all about scoring. A contrast of styles that can be difficult for offensive teams. Add in some bad officiating, players having an off night, some selfish or bad decision making and you have the recipe for a loss.

Jones played great defense on the last play and made several plays late in the game. He came up big when the team needed him. Similarly Hunter came with energy, made good decisions other than the pass down low and got some needed buckets.

I said early on, Hunter can be the difference maker for this team. He will not be a big scorer but games like today are possible on occasion. His athleticism and energy gives X a different feel. He can be disruptive defensively and can attack the glass in a different way than Free and Nunge. He also has the ability to defend at a high level. He is certainly prone to mistakes which is why he could be the difference maker between a deep tournament run and round of 32.

Still a lot of Steele in the players at end of games. We needed to get the ball inside rather dribble around and then give to Boum who everyone knew was getting it. Nunge got pushed around by a tougher team and that will happen often. Not shooting 3’s well doesn’t help but SH is a really good defensive team. Depth is a problem on this team and I don’t trust anyone on bench besides Hunter. Miller was ready to blow a gasket when Kunkle didn’t box out again. Glad we win though pretty quiet without students. Also, Free is playing really well.

I think we all feel Claude had a bad game but I wanted to call out a big moment of hope for his potential. After committing a turnover, he generated a steal on the very same play. I realize everyone focuses on the assist to turnover ratio but that is weak minded. Those with real tenacity make up for their mistake by getting the ball back. I don't know if Claude is that guy but if he becomes that player, X will be a force for years to come.

Looking at the bright side, the glass is more than half full. A good 3/4 in my opinion.
The team showed admirable tenacity under adverse circumstances.
A number players had an off night, yet they hung together & WON as a TEAM,
That is very important in gelling the team spirit having having exuded the glue that bonds individual players together.
The knowledge that “I’ve got your back & I know that you’ll have mine.”
Nunge was obviously very tired & weak. Let’s hope he doesn’t have the flu bug or something worse.
The refs were terrible allowing some SH—ers to beat on Jack like a rag doll.
More acute officiating would normally have resulted in some of their bigs fouling out.

Off topic Georgetown played well tonight vs. UCONN trading leads for 3/4 of the game until Joey Calcaterra((possibly league possibly the best player

took over the game resulting in a10-12 point margin for the Huskies.
Then the Frustrated Hoyas big men resorted to thuggery.
The refs did nothing to throttle down the abuse. Luckily no mayhem involving fisticuffs occurred because the UCONN players maintained their composure. That is the team that will be XU’s main obstacle to Big East supremacy.
