DePaul Game thread 12/30/17

Strus hustles throughout the game. He has fire in his belly, being overlooked out of HS and playing D II for two years. He feasts on people falling asleep as he goes for the ball. He possesses excellent anticipatory skills.

He does exhibit a weakness when he dribbles the ball near traffic.

Good get for DePaul but think he would have looked better in an X uniform.

Poor perimeter d and bad shots. Why is Scruggs shooting?

X's O seems to be off today. Lots of drives into teeth of the D and then no where to go with ball. Tre with Three points and only JP is scoring. The two three zone looks to have X confused.

Strus and Roberts have a combined total of 26 points to X's 29.
Well...so much for putting them out early.
Looks like boys and girls we have a ballgame here.

Scruggs and Q are 0-5 from 3
Just don't shoot.

Had a conversation with an AAU Coach of Strus', whom I have known for many years and expressed the same sentiment.

Appears that Strus sought to be the team stud versus a key player on an NCAA tournament team program as a better way to advance his career.

His Mom is also close friends with DePaul AD Jean Lenti-Ponsetto.

X has more TO's than FG's 10 to 9
Not going to win many games with that stat.

Steve - Thanks for the back story. I remember when his name came up on the recruiting rumors and the D2 background made me think of Andrew Taylor. Nothing against The Sheriff, Andy was a solid back up big off the bench but Strus is one heck of a player.

DePaul's D has been great.
Causing numerous deflections and causing TO's.
X is getting beat 14-4 on points off TO's.

X has o-boards of 8 vs. 4 for DePaul but DePaul leads in 2nd chance points 5-2.
