Re: Gonzaga, liars or just mis-quoted

i did hear today's interview, and it's the first time i've heard an actual xavier official state that they've made an effort to contact gonzaga, and gonzaga says no.

it really doesn't make any sense. i get what la muskie is saying, but gonzaga doesn't appear to roll that way. they've scheduled home and homes with saint joseph's and saint louis. they played at saint joseph's THIS YEAR. not only that, they played them IN THE FIELD HOUSE, which is much more intense than playign them at the palestra. they've scheduled nevada home and home. they've scheduled tulsa home and home. they don't appear to be afraid to play non-bcs programs that are on xavier's level. when they scheduled the home and home with nevada, the wolfpack were probalby better than xavier at the time, but garnered less national recognition. to me, that seems like a bigger risk.

i believe bobinski. however, i can't help but think that there is some variable that we're not getting. it doesn't make any sense that they wouldn't want to play xavier. if they had a history of only scheduling home adn homes with big name bcs teams, then it would at least make sense, but they don't. saint joseph's is a dangerous team, and gonzaga played them in the most dangerous of places this very season.

It's possible that Gonzaga thinks of X as its leading challenger for the "best of the non-Big Six" schools, and they don't see St. Joe's, Nevada, etc., as posing the same threat.

But, as noted by myself and others, Gonzaga's clearly not afraid to play, or lose to, similar or bigger-name programs, so if they thought playing X was a net gain, they'd do it. They don't, so there's no game.

Gonzaga must have their reasons who and why they play. If they don't want to play X big deal. Morrison was a creep, too. Every program puts a lot of study into a schedule to suit their interests..

As I said on the other thread- great job by Bobo. He wasn't afraid to call out other schools and tell it like it is.

A lot of guys wouldn't have been as direct. He absolutely trashed Kentucky, Indiana and Gonzaga. For sure, they won't be playing us any time soon- that is until we win a National Championship or if it is a set up National TV game.

XU also has the disadvantage of being in the same city as another D-1 team that is in a league with many of the schools who we could schedule against and who we used to play like Marquette, ND, Providence and even South Florida. That is a 16 team league and there is only one team that we can play out of it. (Sorry, Beelzebob doesn't count.)

Quite frankly, when you look at the entire picture and teams that we possibly can play, this year's sched is amazing.

Gary and LA muskie you might be right that they want to play the Tenn, dukes etc but when they whine about not being able to get games in their house they are disingenuous because they say we will play "anywhere" and "anyone" but when someone like X stepped up they forget the definition of the words anywhere and anyone. When Dawn was the AD she said X would go out to their house and they said "no way will we play you" She said they would not explain why.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Perhaps the two presidents of the universities should have a talk.
When I was on their campus (really nice by the way) last summer, I talked to several of the Jesuits up there as well as some of the faculty. Each of those I talked to expressed that it would be a good game if the two schools did meet. I had hoped to talk to the AD about the matter but he was nowhere to be found.
And yes, I was wearing a Xavier jacket as I toured the campus.
I did tell one group of employees I was talk ing to that if Xavier does lose a game, the players that represent X also play with great intensity buy yet do not break down and cry.
I just couldn't help myself.

Their president is a very impressive person spiritually but I am not sure he dabbles in the athletic department that way Shadow.

no need to get worked up about the Zags.

if they don't want to play us, so be it. plenty of other good teams to schedule.

we had out chance in the NCAA tourney and couldn't get it done. we can only hope the opportunity presents itself again because i have a feeling the results would be different.

Spirituality aside, the Jesuits up there have great digs. Their dining room faces south, overlooking a pond, a wide expanse of green and the Spokane River. Beats the hell out of Victory Parkway. One of the priests I met up there gave me a tour through their building. He was also a great basketball fan.
