I don't care if others bring it up but as Xavier fans few seem to have any confidence in Xavier and Sean. Until Sean interviews somewhere else I just wish the stupid talk would stop. And it is bad for recruiting if your fans speculate every year if your coach will come back. As for the we will good regardless Tulsa fans thought the same thing. At some point starting over every 3 or 4 years will catch up to you and we could be Loyola or Lasalle. I don't think Sean is going anywhere anytime soon I just wish the majority of our fans would have a little more confidence in the program and actually believe that Sean may realize what a great situation he is in. Last I checked other then Thad, leaving Xavier has not always been the best thing for your coaching career.drudy23 wrote:xavierj wrote:Make it stop.quote]
Why? If chatter likes this stops, that means we likely suck. People wanting our coach is a good thing...it means we're good.
Would you rather no one want him and we suck?
He's going to leave eventually. Maybe not next year...maybe not in 3 years. But eventually it will happen. We can't compete financially with the top high conference schools.
Just prepare yourself for that fact now. And, in saying that, we'll all move on and Xavier will still be good, just like we always have been.

Wise, you must be the only X fan who didn't know that. From the day Matta was hired, everyone I talked to knew that he'd be gone in 3 years if he was really successful, or 5 years if he was slightly less successful. That prediction was probably posted on this board (and its predecessor) dozens of times while Thad was still here.
After completing the best 3-year run in Xavier history, along with our deepest tourney run, he left, just about the time that most of us thought he'd be leaving, except for those misty-eyed Xavier fans who go to sleep on sheets with the Xavier fight song lyrics on them.
He came, he won big, he left. You feel used and abused because he didn't leave the way you wish he had. Four years later, you still have this idea of the purity of college basketball that is disproved each and every year, as dozens of schools fire their coaches, and other coaches leave for greener pastures. Say hello to the real world.

Re: Miller - Candidate?
I think that's a cop-out. He wanted a upper-echelon Big 10 job. He wanted to coach at a school he thought could compete for a national title on a regular basis. And low and behold, he got what he wanted and so far has made the most of it.GBXU wrote:Matta's motivation was/is money. None of us will know what Miller's motivation is until someone with deeper pockets comes along. I'm a bit of a homer but I think Miller can achieve greatness here faster than anywhere else.
Look, the circumstances surrounding his departure may have been unprofessional, but I don't think you can question his reasoning. It wasn't just $$$.

Re: Miller - Candidate?
Don't be so naive. The list is probably pretty short (probably fewer than 10 schools on it) but Pitt is not the only job for which Coach might leave. And the buy-out, I hope you would know by now, is meaningless; it just gets factored into the new deal. Seriously, though, I really wish we could wait until after the season to have these discussions -- at least then they would be more timely.xavierj wrote:The guy has it made and the only job I could ever see him leave for is Pitt. The guy has been here 7 years and his kids have been in the same school for 7 years. Do you really think is ego is that big?

Sean may stay , he may go but I prefer to enjoy his ability while he is here and let others worry about something I can not control.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I don't see Sean being interested in the SC job. Why go from coaching the top team in the A-10 to a bottom tier team in the SEC? At best, it's a lateral and more likely it's a step down.
I'm more concerned about IU coming after him after their coach gets fired. How do you turn down that job?

I love all of the angst displayed over Miller leaving. Some of you must have serious left over separation anxiety from when mommy and daddy dropped you on on your very first day of school.

vacancies: the program doesn't need any distractions now. Indiana just lost amid distractions. The Marchin' Musketeers are trying to focus on URI, then the next game, and into A10 to NCAA. How many X coaches have 'enjoyed' success after leaving? Staak? Gillen? Skip? had wake at #1, briefly. Matta? he was one whistle away from nothing. Sean's smart. If he left it'd be for the right reason and he would belong there. the program is still on it's way up, enjoy the ride! there's always a vacancy, there's always a Xavier coach! In Sean We Trust!

I was dropped off my first day of school by my mom. My dad, who had been through the routine several previous times, was at work since it was afternoon kindergarten.vee4xu wrote:I love all of the angst displayed over Miller leaving. And for what it's worth, I walked home from school, having to cross a semi- busy street. And I hadn't turned 5 yet. Things were a lot different back then.
