Smails, about 7-8 years ago, Pat Kelsey's brother-in-law, Paul Cluxton, made all 95 or so free throws he attempted for NKU. He was truly an amazing shooter, one I tried to get X to recruit, but the staff opted for Kenny Harvey that year.

I believe someone from NKY University hit all of his free throws--maybe 96-- in his senior year. I think it is the college record.

I think we can teach players to play defense--like Burrell as long as they have a great basketball IQ. If he is getting his shot off with double and triple team, he should have the quickness to play D. Contrary to what many other posters thought, Johnny Wolf played smart defense. He was usually in the right place at the right time. If you are smart, you make up for any deficiencies in other ways.

I do trust Miller's eye fo talent. He also looks to develop players over four years. We may not see any impact until Redford's junior year.

I played against Cluxton in baseball and he was a heck of a pitcher. Not that Harvey gave us great minutes, but Cluxton was too slow to help much either.

I think Lead makes a good point, I also trust Miller's eye for what he needs. Redford might not be all-world his first year but I bet he improves over his four years and if he improves he has the shot potential...maybe Sean can make him a D expert. Sean probably has a slot for him in his game plan and I trust Sean.

Hold off on the late Sydney Raeford, who died of a brain aneurysm a few years back. Sydney got some bad advice from some "relatives" who stirred things up because he wasn't starting ahead of Jamaal Walker. Sydney decided to transfer and left Xavier at the start of the second semester before the Sweet 16 run in 1990. Had he stayed, Xavier might have made it to the Final Four. Raeford would have served as a competitive challenge for Walker and would have been able to sub for him in the second half against Texas when Xavier lost that 18-point lead. Jamaal fouled out and Mike Davenport, whose ankle wasn't very strong, was the only guard left and he had seldom been a pg.
There were three members of that class and Dwayne Wilson "The Chief" is now a Cincinnati police officer. The other two members, Sydney and Jerome Holmes, are disceased. Holmes was found shot in the back of the head execution style. He left Xavier after one year and a semester. Jerome broke his shooting wrist early in his freshman year and developed some bad habits, primary of which was a reluctance to attend class. Pete sat him down for two reasons, class (non ) and he didn't do the exercises to rehabilitate his broken wrist. He left after the first semester of his sophomore year.
Sydney Raeford was a nice kid, quiet and unassuming. He came to Xavier fromn St. Anthony's High school where Bob Hurley sr. was the coach. He was class but listened to the wrong people. He was going to transfer to St. Peter's but would have had to pay his own way for a semester because they had no scholarships available.

If that's this years video the previous post that indicated that he was the tallest player on the team at 6'-0" is not true. There were a couple of players on the floor that were much taller than him.

Obviously that is not a high school game. Have you ever seen a high school team wearing mesh, reversible jerseys such as those? Those clips must have been compiled from a summer league or AAU ball.
