Re: Burrell under pressure
G, that will last about as long as it takes ******* to show up.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Re: Burrell under pressure
Thank you sweet 16 ...you found the stats to back up what I was saying. This is exactly what I meant. This was not a dumb or stupid post. This was a correct post backed by fact..not opinion. 0-16 from the field (4 layups) and 53% shooting from the foul line (9-17) is pitiful. It is a classic example of choking under pressure!!! Thanks again sweet 16

So why didn't YOU have figures before you started posting? Talk about intellectually lazy. Once again, here's Stan's actual numbers---
BYU: 0 pts. in 29 minutes, 0-4 FG, 0-2 FT
OSU: 3 pts. in 35 minutes, 1-7 FG, 1-3 FT
GA: 3 pts. in 37 minutes, 0-3 FG, 3-4 FT
PU: 11 pts. in 37 minutes, 3-6 FG, 5-8 FT
So, his last 3 NCAA games are 1-14 (not good by any stretch but NOT 0-16), and his FT shooting in this year's tourney is 8-12.
Offense is not Stan's strong point this year, genius. Hasn't been all year. If you're just realizing it now, you've been too busy staring dreamily at the big JW poster on your wall.

Re: Burrell under pressure
Mr. N I believe his 0 for 16 reference came from my post and if it wasn't clear let me clarify......if my memory serves me correctly Stan has gone 0 for 16 from the field (EXCLUDING layups) over the last 4 NCAA games. It's not my intent to be critical of Stan as I think he is a critical component to what we do. I just think it was alittle unfair for everyone to attact Millersdad when I believe he was making a valid point. My point remains that when Stan is on the floor we need to make adjustments so as not to expose his weakness (IE a shooting guard who can't shoot). BJ and/or Duncan need to be on the floor with SB.

Re: Burrell under pressure
Sweet, Stan's 4-20 from the floor. You can't "exclude" layups. Why not "exclude" dunks? Why not "exclude" breakaway baskets? How about "excluding" any wide-open shot? Heck, let's award points for degree of difficulty!
I'm pretty sure layups count the same as a 15-footer, and I'd RATHER have a guy shooting layups. It's a high percentage shot.
It's hard not to attack millersdad because (1) he's obviously NOT Miller's Dad, so why adopt the screen name?, and (2) he's an idiot, and most of the posters seem to agree with me on this.
millersdad is still pissed Wolf's not on the team, so he takes shots at all the other guards. Stan's not a perfect player, but he's been a huge help to X this year. Would I like to see him score a little more? Sure. But we're in the Sweet 16 with what he's given us so far. If we lose a game because Stan shoots 1-16, then go after him.

Re: Burrell under pressure
Stan has had a great career at X. I think you need to look beyond the stats to get the point. Not only in the tourney, but throughout his early career I would pull my hair out when Stan would put up those risky "Kobesqu" fading trey's.
But his biggest attribute has been the ability to completely alter his game later in his career. He is a defensive stud, and clearly serves as the leader of the team. The question is - how far would he have gotten without everyone else taking the burden of the offensive load?
Next question - who get's the ball when there's 5 seconds left and we're down by 1?

Re: Burrell under pressure
Who gets the ball when were down by 1 with 5 seconds left? Well, Dustin Dow was just on with Lance discussing that exact scenario and he said (and it would be my pick as well) it would be Drew and/or Josh. I'm assuming that you would want Stan?

Re: Burrell under pressure
For those who are ballyhooing Danté over Stan, chew on this a while. (The following are true for the whole body of work for this season since that's all we have to go on in comparing the two players head-to-head. Since no one is denying Stan's superiority on defense, I will concentrate solely on stats that contribute to a team's offensive execution):
1a) Stanley has connected on 98 of 118 free throws. That amounts to 83.1%
1b) Danté is 16 for 26 from the line for 61.5%.
2a) Stan has hit 102 of his 261 field goal attempts for a 39.1% average.
2b) Danté is 23 for 65 for 35.4%.
3a) Stan is 42 of 108 behind the arc for 38.9%.
3b) Danté is 16 of 42 for 38.1%.
4a) Stan earns .12 assists per minute.
4b) Danté earns .06 assists per minute.
5a) Stan pulls down .0125 offensive rebounds per minute.
6b) Danté gets .0119 OR per minute.
7a) Stan scores .31 points per minute played.
7b) Danté scores .22 points per minute played.
In summary, there is not one offensive stat in which Danté exceeds Stan!
It is ridiculously easy to pick out an individual game here or there over a 2-3 year period of time to support your claim. But it makes much more sense to use the entire current season's combined statistics to get the real picture. Another thing to consider is the fact that Stan had none of the benefit of playing against the opposition's scrubs and walk-ons. Danté was almost always in at the end of such games. Who should have had the easier time scoring under those circumstances?
Don't get me wrong. I revel in the thought that we have 3 more years of Danté and I am greatly pleased at his progress from the beginning of the season until now. But let's not lose sight of the fact that Stan remade himself over the span of one off-season and became both the defensive stopper of the Muskies and their true heart and soul!

Re: Burrell under pressure
It's also ridiculous for anyone to suggest that Stan would be the first option for taking the last (potentially winning) perimeter shot of any game. Under those circumstances, the coaching staff might be subbing offense/defense at the stop of the clock. BJ, Josh, and Drew would probably be the likely candidates. Stan might remain in the game for defensive purposes with CJ cycling out.
The fact is, Stan, himself, has been the one to take up the defensive mantle left behind by Sato and Cage. It's not like he can't score if the need be. The point is that the team is dedicated to have its offense flow through the defense and that's where Stan has stepped it up!
