That's a good point. No moose in West Virginia. Makes it kind of a stupid joke.

Funny that Xavier fans would crack jokes aimed at West Virginia's Appalachian population and its attendant stereotypes. Norwood was populated in large part by Appalachian migrant workers and to this day Norwood retains many of its charming backward hillbilly characteristics.

(Yes, I know X is technically in Cincinnati but Norwood is its neighborhood.)

Technically, Xavier's neighborhood is not Norwood, though it is very near Norwood.

Observations:
Can't we concentrate on Huggins and forget about the cliche stereotypes?
Norwood is a separate political entity surrounded by the City of Cincinnati. It has its own elected officials and for many years was home to two of the area's largest companies, Fisher Body which made Chevrolets and Trailmobile, one of the largest manufacturers of tractor trailors in the country. GM moved the Cchevy plant and TM also relocated.
Norwood got its "Appalacian reputation" because of the large number of workers who came from that area who worked at the GM-Fisher Body plant and at trailmobile.

And I always thought that Xavier is located in Cincinnati flanked on either side by Avondale to the west and Evanston to the east.

Really, Huggins is a much better target than the people of Morgantown, Huntington, Wheeling , Bloomfield orCharleston.
