Western Michigan center to transfer to X...

Postby xukeith » Sun Apr 15, 2012 2:03 pm

Maybe. This is per a tweet from Xavier Popes:

Western Michigan man--Name: Matt Stainbrook. Ht: 6'9". Weight: 290. Noodly, red hair? Yes. Rec-specs? Absolutely. This could be fun.
Sources are telling us that a 6'9", 290 lb transfer from Western Michigan who looks like Mrs. Doubtfire will commit to Xavier. More coming.

He looks a lot more than 290 in this picture.

second-leading scorer and leading rebounder from this past season.

he's got the size at 6'9", 290 pounds to be an inside force for any team. And compared to many other bulky centers, he does have some effective post moves.

Seriously! Well, we need some bigger bodies, at least for practice.

He doesn't seem to fit the style of play so I suspect he will get limited minutes but it would be nice to have some size available.

Seems to be an odd addition. I would think X would go after someone who could immediately contribute or a big name transfer that has to sit a year but someone who likely doesn't fit the style and has to sit. Considering X is drawing highly rated recruits, it seems to make sense to use the roster spot on a recruit for 2013. Maybe the staff is already having trouble getting quality bigs due to the team being so guard focused?

Eligible for the 13-14 season?
If so, no immediate help for next year.
Would still think adding a Juco transfer who can play next year would be good.
I think the frontcourt will be a problem again next year...and it may be worse.

Are you kidding me? That guy has more chins than a Chinese phone book! Can he run up and down the court 3 or 4 times in a row? I hope that's a fake (photoshop) picture.

Why is he referred to as Mrs. Doubtfire?

He's got decent numbers, but he does seem like an even worse fit for X's style of play than Frease was. Not sure if I agree with this, assuming Matt ends up at X.
