Neut, you're being way too emotional. We played Dayton and St. Joe's back-to-back each for the third time this season. Sh!t like this happens in these conference tourneys. Look at Purdue tonight falling to Illinois, for God sake.
Cool down and we'll see you in the morning, big guy.
Why did X even bother showing up tonight?

Re: Why did X even bother showing up tonight?
Most years St Joes is the high seed in the other bracket facing X, why, because they are the second best team in this league. Yesterday they had a walk over game and X had a game that is always emotional. X lost after the emotional cross town shootout, they lost to St Joes after the ud game and again tonight. I hope the next time we see St Joes it is San Antonio.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I initially had the same reaction, but then one of the ESPN announcers pointed out that the Purdue loss was likely attributable to Purdue's being such a young team.
4 of our top 6 guys are juniors or seniors, and the other 2 sophs, so we don't have that excuse.

Well I am sure someone could come up with an excuse but I don't think the committee will say well they are young so that loss doesn't count. If that would be the case then dayton deserves a 6-7 seed.Mr. Neutral wrote:<<Look at Purdue tonight falling to Illinois, for God sake.>>

mm, neither I nor the ESPN announcer were saying that Purdue's loss to Illinois "wouldn't count", but it's a lot more understandable as a learning experience for a frosh/soph-dominated team than it is for a junior/senior-dominated team.

I did say you did. I was saying what I think the committee would say. Again if they do say well Prudue is young then they better say ud was playing hurt for a long time and those losses don't count either. I think they will look at their body of work and leave that excuse on the doorstep.

Neut, my good man, you are emotionally twisting in the wind like a pinata. Do you want all of us to keep swinging until you blow up? Quit bouncing around with the different reasons for this loss and let's move forward trusting the next few days the staff will get them re-focused and ready for a 6 game run!Mr. Neutral wrote:mm, neither I nor the ESPN announcer were saying that Purdue's loss to Illinois "wouldn't count", but it's a lot more understandable as a learning experience for a frosh/soph-dominated team than it is for a junior/senior-dominated team.

Re: Why did X even bother showing up tonight?
First off, St Joes is way too talented to be on the bubble. I think they are better than Xavier. Burrell needs to get his head out of his @#$ and start shooting the open 3. He keep trying to penetrate into the paint where the other 9 players were already hanging out. He has way too many turnovers for a senior guard. Also, our advantage against St Joes is our quickness at guard. So, why didn't we spread them out and let Drew go one on one? The pick and roll was not working, yet we tried it the whole game.
I hope we show up next week. I won't say this is our best team ever until we get to the sweet 16. Until then, I will take the T Hill, D Strong, and Jamal give me the ball team as the best X teams ever.

(1) Winning and playing your best ball are two different things. Can you honestly say that you thought X was playing just as well in February & March as we were in the wins over Indiana, Kent State, K-State, VA and Auburn? I say absolutely not, though you may disagree.
(2) "This is still the most talented team we've had"-I would disagree with that as well. None of our seniors or juniors are likely to play in the NBA, and Derrick Brown has the athletic ability but needs to up his game markedly for that to happen.
Previous teams have had Grant, Hill, Strong, Williams, West, Posey, etc., and even the Elite Eight team was more talented than this team. LC is hands-down over Lavender, I'd take Myles over Love or Duncan, and Sato over Anderson. Plus, you had Doellman and Cage contributing mightily.
We are NOT that talented. We've got a bunch of good players who can play very well on certain nights, and not so well on other nights, and we're way too dependent on the 3 without being a consistently good 3-pt. shooting team.

Re: Why did X even bother showing up tonight?
Is this the same Burrell that had 5 assists high for the team and 1 less rebound than Josh Duncan? Is it the same Stanley Burrell that was 1 point less than the high scorer Duncan. I think you need to rewind the game and watch it again. Stanley was not the problem. He had three turnover ties with Duncan and was the only person in the game that actually acted like he wanted to win the game. OH BTW did I say he had 3 steals which was three steals more than any other player on the team except the one Dante Jackson had.crd1 wrote:First off, St Joes is way too talented to be on the bubble. Get another whipping boy because Stanley doesn't deserve it.
YOU ARE AWARDED NO POINTS AND YOUR POST MADE US ALL A LITTLE LESS INFORMED.
