Xavier and TV is Great

It seems that every month or so, MM is filled with what is wrong with Xavier and its TV package.
I say nothing is wrong with it, and several hundred other D-1 school would love to have it. 99.9% of games (non-guarantee) are on TV, either FOX, ESPN, or SCTV. The latter is the new kid on the blok, and the A-10 is fortunate to have a tie-in with them. On FOX, all of the games ar on in the Cincinnati area, and when not conflicting with the Hockey's and Cavs, they are all over OHIO. That is good, that is very good.
Now, if a "fan" doesn't want to pay the $3, $7, $10 a month to get the Fox Sports package...too bad. I have Directv and I pay $10. a month four months a year to be able to get XU games. (I also have no idea whay anyone does not have DISH or Directv .. no idea!
As to the question one MM asked about why he doesn't get the game in HD on his Directv, he needs to check with Directv and get the HD receiver. Without it, everything he gets will just be plain ol TV, even if he has a HD Television.
Anyway, I hope that the FOX marriage with XU continues for eons, and those who won't pay a provider for the Fox package (which includes CSTV) lean to live with your gripes.

Not only does the whole state have the opportunity to watch Xavier, but also many cable companies pick up several additional fox regional channels (for example, a friend in detroit gets fox sports ohio).

Credit Fox. Fox must charge cable companies very little for their channels. If Time Warner picks up 6 regional fox sports channels but not the Big Ten Network, fox must be offering them a deal.

I fear the rumors of the Fox affiliate in Cincinnati dropping UC and displacing X at fox sports ohio.

I agree as well. I have DirecTV and with the Sports Package I get to see nearly every game.

As for HD, people need to understand that there are two separate issues: (i) you obviously need to have an HD receiver to receive an HD broadcast, but also (ii) the producer must use HD camera equipment. The latter can be quite expensive, and frankly a lot of times the producer either can't afford that expense or decides that it's not worth the expense.

I am the MM poster who mentioned that on CSTV that HD is rarely used. I have the HD receiver for Direct TV & the converter needed to get the HD signal from the new satellite.

My complaint is more to what LA Muskie talks about. My issue is that CSTV has an HD channel (as does Fox Ohio and Fox Cincy) but there is rarely any HD programming on the channel. The picture is no different than the digital signal I am getting on the regular channel. I understand the costs associated with HD are greater, but what's the point of having an HD channel if you are not going to put much HD material on it?

As to the thread we are discussing -- I cannot complain with the TV deal we have. Sure people get bent out of shape b/c they have to pay a little more to get CSTV, but at least 95% of our games have been televised over the past couple of years. This makes life a lot easier for us alumni that don't live in the Tri-State.

The reason they have broadcast capabilities lies in the simple fact that they have to, by federal mandate. (See http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/digitaltv.html )
If you really want to see a game, you will. When I lived in Chicago, I went to a bar that got the games (O'Callahans or Mother Hubbard's). Now that I have adopted a different lifestyle, I have a dish on top of my coach and can watch every game because I buy the sports package. I may watch a game even out on the desert somewhere and not have internet by I do, by Directv, get all the games on TV.
For that matter, a classmate of mine has dropped by several times this year to watch a game with me because I have that package unavailable to him. He is due here again tonight for the Dayton game.

In the DC area with DirecTV, there are more Xavier games on my TV than any of the local teams.

I have no problem with the TV package. I have no problem getting a Xavier game. It used to be rare that you could see a Xavier game on TV. Now it's rare if you cannot watch a Xavier game on TV.

Not only are almost all games on tv, they are available nationwide, thru sports packages. How mant schools have almost all their games on nationally? Having a local channel do your games vs. our deal is a no brainer. Our deal is similar to the Cubs on WGN, or the Braves on TBS. I have no complaints whatsoever. That being said, I know there are people on this board, who would bitch if they won a million bucks and some of the bills were wrinkled.

I love the sport's package on directv. The cost is minimal & I have the knowledge that almost every game will be on tv. It's a small price to pay. I live in Michigan & bought a 3 game package just to see the Tenn game at Cintas. Anytime I can see X play, I think it is $ well spent.
