if you get directv and you're truly dissatisfied, getting out of the contract is probably easier than you might think. every time the slightest thing has gone wrong with it, they've credited my bill. i ordered a dvr, and ended up getting it for three, plus a month's service, plus three months free dvr service simply because the installer was late.

i recommend it as a service. directv certainly has room for improvement, but it's still much better than cable ever was.

without directly sitting in on the negotiations for television contracts with the A10, it's difficult to give you an explanation to satisfy you.....but i have an idea that the new trend in college basketball is; there are so many leagues/teams of interest for tv, espn, espn2, espnU, espn plus, and the networks are up to their eyeballs...cstv, relatively new, and certainly room for future interest offers an opportunity, perhaps, as the A10 is on the verge of becoming stronger and growing....cstv may look like a curious question now but who's to say next year, year after that....might turn out to be a good deal!!! duke, nc already has the best time$

Sorry folks, but CSTV is NOT "available to whoever wants to see it." At least, not on COX Cable anywhere in the US and not in Cleveburgh Ohio.

Oh yeah, I could change everything over and get Direct TV, but then in about 6 months I'll have to change again when AT&T Uverse TV comes in.

The problem again goes back to the spring of 2004 when the do nothing commissoner did not use her available leverage to negotiate a nice new multi year TV deal coming of a twin Elite 8 season for the A-10. Two years ago, dealing from weakness, she did this half baked deal with CSTV.

Go ahead Blutarsky defenders, defend. But the bottom line is that a game between two ranked teams will be unavailable to many parts of the USA via TV.

I'll be forced to watch on channelsurfing.net in a hotel in Spartanburg SC.
I hope that it works tomorrow night.

{to the tune of "Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues, Again"] To be stuck in side of Spartburg with the Xavier blues again....what in the world are you doing in northern South Carolina this time of the year. NOAA tells me its going to snow there this weekend!

MOR, please, cite any creditable evidence that the A10 did nothing and had an opportunity to score a major network contract..EVER. You THINK the A10 had some leverage, or should have...but with all due respect to a hallowed LewHirt guy, I need more than your sayso.

As we all know, No one without BCS football as part of the package gets a major network basketball contract. If you can cite me an example of a league or conference with worse basketball but a national, let alone a better national, network, let us know. I would change my tune. No one except that resort some where in New Jersey was advertising on the we-pay-you-to broadcast it A10 college network. If there was/is some great demand for A10 basketball, it should be showing up in buys of this network. No demand, no national interest.

I just bought the CSTV package for 3.95/mo from TW this evening, and can shut it off whenever I want. I would bet even money you can get it in Cleveburgh, too, without buying Direct TV.

MOR, you could have CSTV. You've just chosen not to go with DirecTV or Dish for your own personal reasons. If you're that concerned about watching Thursday's game from home, maybe you should prioritize having CSTV over the new AT&T system...

i would not mind playing on a different night of the week if it meant getting more games on espn. if the atlantic ten continues to have a strong year and gain some national attention, espn may become more interested, but i don't think we'd be their first choice for wedensday and saturday games (which is when the a-10 typically plays unless it's the cstv game of the week, or if tv is involved some other way).

a few years ago, espn would broadcast two c-usa games back to back every friday night once conference play began. i know most leagues don't like to play on fridays for whatever reason, but i'd have no problems with that. sundays, mondays and tuesdays work for me as well. it would most likely be only one or two games a week, but i'm sure it could be worked out. cstv would probably get a cut of the revenue, but that's not unusual. as i understand it cbs forks it out for the regular season games they want to broadcast that aren't sec games to whomever has the broadcast rights.

cbs contacted the atlantic ten (or maybe the a-10 contacted them) and said they were interested in working out a deal. they said they were starting an all college sports network, and were interested in obtaining broadcast rights to the atlantic ten. in return, they would pick up the cost of production and work to get the games broadcast in all atlantic ten markets.

...oh wait, that's the deal we have with cstv.

The thing about this mentality is that I laugh every time the Big East Conference plays its big football games on Thursday nights...it's even worse when the WAC plays on Friday nights. I don't really know if CSTV is better than being "that" conference that takes the garbage time on the big networks, I'm just sayin'.

personally, i think that would be a silly reason to turn down tv money and exposure. basketball is played on every night of the week. i don't really see what the big deal would be. it's not like football where over 95% of all games are played on the same day, and even then the big east, acc and sec all played games on weeknights to get on espn prime time. some of those thursday night games have been hugely important over the years and ended up drawing massive ratings. playing on friday would most likely be better from an academic standpoint as well, especially if you're on the road. you don't have to travel in the middle of the week.

I agree that CSTV is awful. My cable company doesn't carry it and will not carry it. Direct TV is not an option since the signal is blocked.

As an alternative how does XU get onto Fox sports central network? I have to believe that's a national station just as Fox sport pacific or east.
