TRIVIA ? Back at The Gardens
Wasn't there a Victory Bell used at The Gardens? How long was it used? What happened to it? (not wanting it's return just history refresher)

I too remember the bell. It seamed to go away right around 1994. It wasn't even a victory bell per say but just a bell that the band would start ringing after big plays or timeouts and of courseafter a big victory. I miss the bell

I remember the bell more from Schmidt Fieldhouse than the Gardens. Also remember the X Band would play this drum beat in the final minutes of games at the fieldhouse.

The Class of '68 is wondering where that bell is, too. We sold...if you can believe this... toothbrushes to fund the purchase of that bell, as well as the first Musketeer mascot uniform and epee.
Yes, it is a Victory Bell. Designed and cast by the famous Verdin Bell Company.

I remember that drum beat too! My brother and I would start playing it (rather badly) by beating on chairs or the benches at our CYO basketball league games when it got to be under 1 minute to play. wow the memories and good times.bluegrass wrote:I remember the bell more from Schmidt Fieldhouse than the Gardens. Also remember the X Band would play this drum beat in the final minutes of games at the fieldhouse.

Not sure what an epee is. Does anyone have pictures of any of the old musketeer mascots? If so, PM me and I'll give you my email or post them.

an epee (Ep-ei) is a lightweight fencing sword. I have seen pictures of one of the old musketeer mascots but could not find one online. The Mascot was simply a student dressed as a Musketeer. No Giant fake head no oversized hat and boots. Just a guy dressed in a normal Musketeer outfit.

The bell was retired sometime between 88-90. The band used to ring it after every basket and the NCAA said x couldn't do that anymore. The last time I saw the bell it was at the Schmidt Fieldhouse in the band room.
