CAN XAVIER GET A #1 SEED?
If Xavier wins out going into the tournament they will be 30-4 with a 16 game win streak, A-10 regular and conference champs. They will most likely be ranked in the top 4 in the country. Right now they are ranked 8th in the RPI. They would be probably 11-1 against top 50. I think it's very very very possible with a little help from 7 other teams. Don't count these guys out just yet for a top seed. I would like to know what Xaviers RPI would be if they were to win out, any help there from anybody with a math degree?

If Xavier wins out, they need help to get the 1 seed. They need Memphis to lose to two, not counting Tennessee. They need Duke and UNC to not make the ACC Finals. They need UCLA and Stanford to flounder down the stretch.
But, to your question, can Xavier get a #1 seed, sure they can. If you don't think they can, then you really haven't watched the craziness of late February/early March basketball.

I agree that they could but they would have to win out from her through the A10 tournament. We've seen some amazing things happen with our Muskies over the years so I wouldn't say its impossible at all.

Xavier needs too much help to get a #1 seed. Memphis doesn't figure in this, because there is no way we jump them. We would have to play really strong in the A-10 tourny, and we would need one of the #1 seeds now to go on a losing streak. We also probably won't jump anyone ahead of us. I think a #2 is within reach, but a #1 is just about impossible.

What is the statistical dif between a 1 and 2 seed in terms of success? Aside from the distinct honor, I don't see the advantage, and can see the downside.
For that matter, what is the dif between a 2 and a 3?
Is M Hettel in the house?

For one, no 1 seed has ever lost first round. There is a big advantage to being a number 1 seed. It gives you the best path to the Final Four. Xavier will get a 2 if they win out though because we need too much help for the 1.

Even if we win out I just don't think we would get a #1 unless a lot of teams in front of us just completely fall apart-Duke.UNC,KU,UCLA,TENN,Memphis. A 2 seed is possible.

That would be sweet to see Xavier come up with the #1 seeds.I wonder what Billy Packer would say.
