"There is no at-large [NCAA Tournament bid]," said a deflated UMass coach Travis Ford (after their loss to Fordham). "There is none. That's done. That's probably pretty safe to say."
Ford then paused to reconsider ever so slightly: "I don't know. If we win out, I think we'll be all right. But if we play like this, give me a break."
Now, if one of us, say me, for example, made those same comments in the heat of the moment after a Xavier loss (as I have), I'd get skewered for not being a good enough fan. But I guess coaches can say those things about their own team and not be considered "negative".
Interesting.
I hate it when people give up on their team!

Ford seems like he can be a bit of a hothead.I think he spoke this in the heat of the moment and then maybe thought better of it.Unfortunately I think he's right .Their at large chance are dwindling.

thinking something, knowing something, saying something, 3 different things. A coach should know better, than to make negative comments about his team, but we all say things we later regret..

....after all, a coach's negative comments of his team are comments about himself.Mr. Neutral wrote:"There is no at-large [NCAA Tournament bid]," said a deflated UMass coach Travis Ford (after their loss to Fordham). "There is none. That's done. That's probably pretty safe to say."

I prefer the reality approach. No sense in sugar coating a bad situation. UMass has no choice but to win the tournament. I think he would appeared very foolish if he suggested an at large bid was a possability. Best of luck to the Minutemen!!!

For Mr Neutral (?):
"Go in peace my son, and sin no more. For your pennance, attend three Loyola and three Chicago Circle games. And never again make any comments negative about Xavier for 36 hours after the game has concluded."

Well, at least Ford waited until after the whole game was over- not at halftime or before.

(1) I'm partway there. I've been to 2 Loyola games (Butler, UIC), which would also make 1 UIC game.
(2) Wise, it's been UIC (Univ. of Illinois-Chicago) for years now. It hasn't been called the Circle Campus for quite some time.
But there's just no darn reason for you to start being current now! Live in the past, sir! It's a happy place!

Who said that Ford wasn't being skewered?
