We can only lose two more

Postby xujoe » Sat Feb 16, 2008 9:09 am

Looking at the remaining schedule, it seems to me that there is a good possibility that Xavier can afford to only lose two of the remaining games to win the A10. Either St Joe, Temple, or Rhode Island or even all three could end up with only four losses. St Joe, perhaps only three. Assuming that if Xavier does lose two, it would be against St Joe and URI, we would be hurting in the tie breaker category. A key game is Temple at St Joe. Also St Joe plays at Rhode Island. Of course, they have to play us as well. That is not an easy task for St JKoe and URI. It seems that we must at least win all at home and at Dayton. Even Duquense is not far behind.

...each remaining game is a big challenge now, more heat coming each time. I'm thinking these guys' mentality now IS tough and they're conditioned not to cave in. I'm hoping they''ll win out + Atlantic City and prove they are Elite. Here's to good health!

And I would add good refs (a lot to wish for I know). Nor am I too proud to wish for a little good luck. Which way the ball decides to fall sitting on the rim with the score tied and a second left in the game ... well you get the idea.

It's just what somebody thinks ...

An A10 Regular Season title would mean more, in my opinion, than the A10 tournament title when the seeds are handed out. I'd love to have both, but I'm not sure we'll get both.

St. Joe would have to win out and that would be including winning at Rhode Island, At Dayton and at home against Xavier and Temple no easy task. I think St. Joe will end up 11-5. Rhode Island already has 4 losses so they would have to win out to finish 12-4. Rhode Island has all their tough remaining games at home so they have a shot at 12-4 but I bet they will lose one more and finish 11-5. Xavier in order to not win the league would probably have to lose the next 3 on the road and give 1 away at home. I bet Xavier will lose 2 more games and they will finish 13-3 which would pretty much be a cinch to win the league.

That usually depends on who's on the selection committee year to year. Back in 2003, Xavier won the A-10 regular season and got a 3 based on their whole "body of work" from the committee (although this was the same committee that initially had BYU in a potential Friday-Sunday regional, a big no-no that the committee overlooked).

Last year, both the regular season and conference tournaments seemed to have equal weight, and Xavier's exit in the A-10 semis could have meant the difference between Xavier getting a 9 as opposed to a possible 7 had they won in AC last year.
